R27/197 handbrake problems

  Clio R27
Have just had my first bout of the joys that are frozen rear brakes on my R27. Boiling water and a bit of brake pumping fixed it and the car is now parked in gear as opposed to on the h/brake. However, it feels like the handbrake is only locking the drivers side rear wheel and the lever is pulling up very high. Have read on different forums that the cable may have been snapped or pulled through. Has anyone got any decent links/step-throughs/advice on how to sort this?

Cheers!

Clio III RS with sticking handbrake problems you say... lolz

If the handbrake lever is pulling high then chances are its either a snapped cable or a calliper mech has failed. First thing to do is get under the arse end and check the cable ends are there. If not replace the cables, if so make sure the calipers are actuating and returning to rest correctly.

We now have a service schedule specifically for the Brembo/TRW combination as they're mega prone to siezing. We had one in last week with a NSR that had pulled on too far and stuck. Disconnected the cable, pulled the actuator arm back to its rest and made sure it was working right then re-assembled... still working perfectly now.

I just don't park the car with the handbrake anymore, it's simply not fit for purpose IMO.

your problem will be the cable popping off the back of the handle in the car. Sit in the back and slide both seats forward. Using a torx screwdriver undo 2 bolts, one each side of the plastic handbrake cover. Lift the cover up and you'll see the rachet. Lower handbrake right down and refit the cable. It'll be a fiddle but its easy enough. Refit and it'll all be back to normal. Then never use the handbrake again to park.

have a search in the braking section of the forum, I've discussed this before.
