Need a new set of tyres, for daily use, r888 or michelins?

Any advice would be grateful.

If you have money to blow R888's - Best all rounder michelins - Best compromise Hankook Rs2

Rs2's, not heard a bad word against them. Don't have the ultimate grip of the toyo's, but you'd be a moron to get to that point on the road.

michelins?? PE2's i assume?

yeah PE2's, I had them before and thought they were great, but have been hearing good things bout the r888, but english weather is a bit of a let down to be running them in the wet etc

I run 888's on my clio. In the dry they are awesome. Never going to get them hot enough to experience there full potential on the public roads.

£100 a corner.

Dont last that long.

Make your choice :)

R888s are a semi slick track tyre, not really suited to the road especially on an "everyday" car. You can't really compare the R888s to normal road tyres there's a huge difference in dry grip but, as above, they are a very compromised tyre; wear rate is much higher and they won't work when it's very wet.

ive had neither but im confused as to how you came to a choice between the two?? r888 comes standard on the caterham r500 which suggests to me its a fairly serious piece of kit, where as the Pe2 is an averagely/well priced all round road tyre...

Surely you'll go through 3 sets of r888's in the time it would take you to get through a set of Pe2's

I reckon the best plan seems to be decent set of everyday tyres and have a set of 15's with r888's for weekend/trackday :D

To be honest michelin exaltos are a very good tyre and renault tested the 182 on them both track/road, so it suggests to me its good to stick with them, but i dont use the car everyday anymore and the r888 seems more popular nowadays with the r26r and lotus exige running them. I do have a spare set of wheels to put r888's on but dont want to keep changing when i want to run them.

+1 for the Rs2, i have them & they are awesome.

Had r888's on the trophy these (Rs2's)are better road tyre as you don't get the tractor noise from tyres:mad: that you do with 888's.

All those that rave about Goodyears, you need to look at the 197 site.
All the written off 197's have F1's says something to me:quiet:

Will let you know about Rs2's on track soon;)

R888's arn't a daily use tyre. Yes there road legal. But you wouldn't want them on the car!!

I have 888's on the Trophy. Tbh they are over kill for road use but once you get some heat in them they are pretty epic! in the damp they are ok. I dont think you could ever get them up to optimum temp on the road tbh... but I like to try ;)

Do you use them daily nathan or just at weekends? How do you find them?

I think 888s would be overkill for everyday use. Ive got PE2s on my car for normal road use, and Ive got a set of 888s, which I plan to use only for trackdays :)

  Trophy #473
I use them every day for work and weekends, I have done about 1200 miles on them so far and they are wearing as you would expect... quite quickly. I think I will be lucky if I get 4000 miles out of them.

In short they cost about the same as PE2's but I predict they will last half as long but when warm they give 50% more grip. They are a dry weather tyre and PE2's are an all season so they cant really be compaired as they are both in different leagues. Tbh I dont mind paying decent money for decent tyres, the main reason I got the Trophy is because I enjoy 'progressive' driving. Eating tyres and brakes just goes with the territory. It just comes down to how you drive.
