Race Pro (360)

Couldn't find a thread on this, I guess I'm in the minority here looking at how well it did, but it's hands down the best sim on any console ever.

Other half got it for me as a small present for Christmas (only £7.99 apparently) but I thought I better drain a bit more life out of Forza 3 before getting into it (I hate the single player modes in Forza, so restrictive)

Anyhow, fantastic, pretty much like playing GTR 2 on a console, which is all I could have ever wished for. Sure, the graphics are average at best, the menus look like they were made in MS Paint, the audio sounds like it was played into a microphone from a Memorex C90 and the career mode is rubbish, but...wow, when you're in a professional single make race around Brands in a Formula BMW none of that matters one bit, the handling / physics model is sublime, and on Pro the AI is pretty much spot on.

I can sum it up by saying for my first venture out in a Radical SR4 with no assists at Brands, I span at Paddock Hill...then 10 seconds later I locked up at Druids and went straight into the kitty litter. Console games rarely hit you that hard, I loved it.

As an offline gamer, just being able to set the number of laps, AI difficulty and type of opponents means Forza 3 is up for an instant trade-in, love it.

I love this too Chris. Haven't bothered mentioning it since FM3 came out, but as you say, get deep into how the physics work and it's sublime.

The Formula BMWs around Brands I struggled with until I worked out I could 'lean' on the downforce, more speed = more grip :approve:. Also it's the only game I've ever played where it's easy to drive it like I do a real track i.e. I see the corner and turn in instinctively rather than have to be guided by a marker board or driving line.

Don't get anywhere enough time on the 360 these days but if I see you on I'll send you an invite.

My opinion of you has just dropped significantly ;)

It's a pretty good racing game, but it's no sim.

It's, imo - by some distance - the nearest thing to a sim on a current gen console. Forza 3 does lovely loose handling that's great fun, but for hot lapping it doesn't really cut it. I've not had this much enjoyment just racing AI or doing time trials since F355 Challenge on my DC.

I never thought I'd see a console player rate this so highly - especially over FM3!

If it's any resemblance to GTR2 or even GTR Evo on the PC, then it will be epic. I really cannot see how any other racing game comes close. As ukaskew says - it's not pretty, nor does it have superb audio. But the game itself and the mechanics that it runs on are just brilliant.

The PC side of this has the added benefit of user created cars, tracks and effects - some crap, but some are truly geek-level awesome. The free download of the Porsche 934 is brilliant - a constant change between chaotic grip and mental acceleration. A proper handful. :)

Ive got to say, that in terms of actual racing, I think this is probably the best game I have played on the 360, you can have an absolutely massive battle with the AI cars, who give as good as they get, its a really satisfying game when you get it right

It also has an excellent selection of tracks, Zandvoort, Macau, Pau, some legendary tracks that are more or less overlooked in lots of racing games, and driving around Elkhart lake in the GT cars really is fantastic.

Menus/Sounds/Visuals not the best though!

Did love this game to be honest, got really into it...Started off with no driving aids etc, got quite far into it and then had to do a "stand-in" race with Caterhams, every time I touched the throttle coming out of a corner it just span, no matter what speed!

Tried for weeks to do it and failed every time, not played since (about 1 year ago lol)

I'm sure I'll pick it out again soon.

looks good but disappointed that nothings kicked up when they go off track
