Random rev limits

The car has gone in the garage today to get my starter sorted and a new aux belt and tensioner kit fitted, but i noticed on the way that something else isnt quite right.

The car is randomly imposing mental rev limits.

I pulled out to overtake someone up a hill after it went into 2 lanes, dropped it into 2nd beforehand at about 30, then put my foot down and the rev limiter kicked in at about 4500rpm. It did the same in 3rd.

Further down the road i tried again to see what was happening and it gave me the full 7k+

Then a little while later it decided to cut the power at about 5500rpm.


What on earth could be causing that?

Absolutely impressed so far. Excellent service and very communicative.

I think they are going to be expensive but i'm far more confident the work will be done right than i've ever been with any other garage.

Your problem sounds like random limp mode but im not a mechanic so don't take my work for it...

I'd ideally like to throw the Rs Tuner into it and see if it spits out any error codes but thats not possible at the moment for reasons i may well be forced to explain later in another thread.

They do this to prevent any damage to the engine when cold, won't allow you to get to maximum rev limit till warm.

Thats a 6.5k limiter not a 4.5k one, something deffo isn't right.
