Rattle Fix ?

  BMW M3
Had this for a while now and have a couple ideas what it might be, but was hoping someone might know what the problem is.

Basically, when i get to about 2500 rpm, whether i gun it or just slowly go up the revs, i get a sort of rattle noise from under the car. It sounds like it directly under the gear leaver and so think it may be a heat shield.

However, i feel its too far forward to be the cat hitting it and think it might be the manifold.

Im sure i read somewhere you can move the engine forward a bit by undoing the engine mounts and then replacing the dog bone mount.... then tightening it up again. Is this right and does anyone have any idea what the prob might be?

Thanks guys

Sorry, should have mentioned that ive got a Janspeed exhaust and sports cat. Do you think it could be the cat? The rattle only lasts between 2300 and 2700 id say.

i know yours is a 182 and alot newer than mine, but i also have the same problem in my 1.2. its not the cat/mid box as iv got a str8 thru pipe. mine lasts from 2600 to 3000 rpm and seems to be coming from before the cat but behine the engine. also it happens (just like yours) how ever much strain is on engine...

This might not help you much, but it might help eliminate a faulty exhaust.

Hey. Any luck with this yet?

i fixed mine, turned out to be the alternator belt was a bit loose. i could tell coe i could see the belt flailing when i rev'd the engine.

I like it when its nice easy fixes like this :)
