Rattle from gear leaver

Is there a way of taking the gaitor off without ripping it etc.?

There is a really loud/annoying rattle from under there somewhere but it goes when the car warms up a bit :S:S

Suggestions of what it may be or how to take the gaitor off.

Heat shield dropped or catching on the gearlever rod?

It sounds like its a part under the gator loose or something.

Cant you take them off?

I just got myself a new gear gaitor (or surrounding the gear stick).

In the middle at the dashboard side (front side), you should pull it inwards (towards the gearstick) and you might manage to get it out, without it breaking.

NOT TO DO :
If you pull on the nearest side. (side furthest away from the dashboard) you will ruin it. There are two very french-cheese-like, nobs which WILL break off and then the gaitor will pop up everytime you go in to reverse or any other gear.
