Rattling front suspension

Only notice this at slow speeds when moving in traffic over bumpy ground but the front end has quite a bad rattle which seems to be coming from the drivers side front suspension area . Top mounts are tight, jacked the drivers side up and the everything seems tight, the outer of the tyre seems to be wearing quite quickly too, could this be the damper on its way out?

What else around that area might be causing a rattle like this?

ball joint? mine has just gone for mot and failed having ball joint replaced lets hope it solves the problem :S

how much are ball joints and what do you need to replace?
