Re-building coilovers.

  Italian 3.2 V6
I can get a cheap set of H&R coilovers but would need sent back to re-build as they've had planty of hard use.

How much does this usually cost to do?

I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth doing.. Or just splashing out on some new V-maxx coilovers instead.

Thanks, PSJ.

Even if it's a ball ache I'd go for the h&r's over vmaxx.
I think Fred@btm might have been trying to get some h&r's rebuilt for someone, might be worth a call.

There seems to be a real gap in the market for suspension specialists in the UK.

Not enough demand. Too many people are willing to buy cheap stuff rather than save for decent stuff. People baulk at the sachs rebuild costs, despite the quality of them.

I suppose but I just tried to search for a suspension specialist in the UK and there is none (that I could find).

As you say though - probably down to demand. I imagine there have been businesses in this area in the past in the UK that have failed. I bet I could find a specialist pretty easily in Germany though.

I mean it's just usual wear n tear. Worn Shims etc.. Will the price vary dependind what actually needs doing, or is it a set price and all suspect bits simply replaced?

Will try n contact some traders.

BG are the only one's I've heard of on a regular basis, but they must be out there. I imagine they are more for motorsport applications, and the labour costs etc will reflect their expertise. Enough to put off the average chav in a mk2;).

Gould Engineering have been know to do Sachs, for considerably less than BG.

I like them purely as they have drawn their location map in paint:

BTW... They are the coilovers off my old 172. I remember when I had it, that there was play in the steering.. I was told that this was due to the coilovers.. This correct? (can't remember it happening before they were fitted)

Tbh, that was the only issue I had with them at the time.. Along with a knocking noise but the 172 did that even before the coilovers were fitted (think it was the wishbone or inner-cv boot wearing old :S )

I've got a set of worn H&Rs sat under my bed that I would sell on if I knew for sure somewhere existed for them to be rebuilt

Mildly OT, but has anyone got a build sheet/exploded diag for the AST sportline 1 dampers, referencing part numbers, oil wts/vols etc?

Cheers.

Saying this what needs to done for them to fit my 182 (cup packs) as I'm aware it's a diff setup to all other 1*2's..?

Quick question can standard shocks be re-furbed.

New suspension (little stock left) is extortionate for the FRP but second hand stuff comes up now and again for a not bad price.

Can the shocks be re-furbed? Well I say standard they are be-spoke eibach items.

Cheers Dave, i'm guessing people usually just replace suspension when it's goosed.

In my case it's not as straight forward so I was thinking of getting the shocks refurbed and maybe just tidy the old springs up unless they were passed their best.

I know springs lose a lot of performance over the years.
