re map on a 172

  172
ummmm... Your tempting me too much here to go for it. OK signed up and had a look. I have my V/N now but i guess i cannot do much untill i get the RS Tuner if i decide to get this. Whats your feedback on performace?

I'm sure you could meet someone or even drive to there house and get them to do the ecu upgrade for you and go through it at the same time. Eevn with the cost of petrol it would still be a cheaper option than getting a group_n remap from a tuning company

EDIT:

You wont get much on the top end power wise but there are considerable gains made in the mid range. I got around 6bhp extra constantly between 3500rpm and 6000rpm.

I also got a peak torque increase of 10Nm and upto about 20Nm in the mid range.

Fuel ecconomy is up also. I was getting 32-34mpg every tank. Now im getting 36-38mpg. I do the same journeys every week so its a pretty reliable increase.

I should also note I have no Mods apart from an itg filter.

guess your right mate. Before i buy id like some feedback from people on performance?. then I might buy it.

I would like to know a few things about these.
How much power/torque increase do you get?
What is mpg like after remapping?
What does the car idle like or drive when cruising about? (i.e. lumpy or smooth)
& how many people told their insurance? :p Or can they find out you have remapped it?

The car ran lumpy for a while after map, but jus on idle! The manual says it's cos the ECU is learning the knock values etc again as u've basically reset it. Runs 100% now.

As for increases, I haven't had mine on the RR yet, but the mid range torque is noticably better and she seems alot quicker off the mark.

Mpg is also better up around 3MPG which with fuel the price it is is great!

I should add that I measured the increases I got with the inbuilt performance analyser on back to back runs so it should be quite accurate but probably not exact.

Any one from Derbyshire on here? maybe we could meet up and do it together? (that's if you know what your on about)

If i was to go halfs on an RS Tuner kit with a mate would it work on both cars? Its not coded to one ecu?

With this chart you can see the power gains, with the RS tuner and its performance analyser would you say the RS Tuner is better or the same as K-Tec, or even not as good?

Its going to be about the same no matter what tuning company you go to or if you use an RS Tuner. The RS Tuner will provide the same result for less money with the option of having a custom remap done for about another £50 when you get more engine mods for the car. i.e SS exhuast, sports cat or decat, matched inlets etc.

Also remember no two cars are the same so results will vary greatly between them. I personally did not see any peak gains in power with the RSTuner probably due to running a stock exhuast system. However I personally dont think its about peak gains its about having more useable torque and power across the rev range which the RS Tuner did achieve on my car.

You can buy an unlock code on fastchip.nl to map other cars. So one person buys the kit and can map other cars for a further 40 pounds per car. You could technically make your money back if you had enoug interest.

Rickrude, What you can do is download the manuals and software, read it through once, familarise your self with the software, order the kit.

Then get someones phone number and see if they can walk you through it over the phone. This should be the best way if your really unsure.

One more thing, there is no point in comparing group_n maps such as ktec/fastchip, because i think at the end of the day they are all variants of the same map. Doesnt ktec use fastchips base map anyway?

Everytime you unlock and change to a different car it re-locks to that car, so you could only map the car once and then if you needed to again it'd cost ya another 40 quid!

Anyway, on a different note, and sorry to hi-jack thread, does anyone using the Group N map from Henk notice that top end is lacking a bit? My car struggles above 125 (on the track of course ;) ) where is used to pull rite round to 140?

ahh i didnt know that. Thanks.

Your car pulled to 140?! crikey! thought the top speed was les than that. Maybe with this map it gives better acceleration but lacks top end.

i got 140mph [gps] out of mine, read just under 150mph on the clocks! Interesting to see that it would ony go to 132mph gps with ron95, but pulled easily all the way to the limiter with ron99.

So yes the fuel does make a difference! All carried out on a test track of course!

"When you buy 2 licenses you can program 2 cars as many times as required. RSTuner comes unlocked (1 car license)"
Thats what Henk from Fastchip wrote to me

My mate got an unlock code from Henk and the Tuner is now locked to the new ECU! Wont work on the old 1 at all!

Not true.
Everything works on all supported cars, except for the reprogramming mode.

Ok so if You need to enter some kind of a code to unlock the software to another car (I assume) Then Can't You write down the code from the first car (after first use of the program ) and enter it again after You're done with the second car ?
Just asking, cause I'm just waiting for the kit and I was satisfied with what Henk told me about licensing
