Re-mapped ECU, what do u make of this

For those tha havent read about the current availability of re mapping the standard ecus on 106s and saxos (and all of other kinds of production ecus on all sorts of car), i thought i would post a bit of info.

Available from Jamsport, in Northampton, mapped on SUN rolling road, 01604 755529.

Cost is From £350.00 upwards, dependng on time spent on rollers and time of mapper etc.
I saw big gains having my 106 gti mapped, with mods of Piper 260 degree cams, btb 4 into 1 exhaust manifold, peugeot Sport de cat exhaust system, Escort Cosworth Fuel Pressure regulator, Ram cooler and green air filter

Before Re map - 111bhp @ wheels

After Re map - 122bhp @ wheels

Guestimated flywheel figures by rolling road were before of 144bhp and after 162bhp, with torque b4 being 120 ft lb and after 136 ft lb.

If you contact Jamsport regarding any car with any ecu, they can confirm if they can re map it, the large majority will be able to, i think later saxos may have issues with reagrd to the 3 plug ecus etc, early saxos and 106s with magnetti marelli single plug ecus will be fine, mine has this ecu and has been no problem at all.

Some ECUs you can just map.....its all dependant on the sphistication of the software used and the ability to get into the actual ECU in the first place. Once your there, its just like mapping any other ECU by altering figures.

Technically our siemens ECUs could run everything from turbos with VVT and antilag, but it just doesnt have the software, and writing the software onto the eprom is hard.

that these guys have. I read something about it costing a few grand for the tool, but have seen some impressive results from a few saxo/106 owners.

Well I remember back when the first 172s were in the making & the 0-60s were 5.5 in all the preview magazines, but they complained about some major torque steer. And I thought, Damn Im getting one of them.
Then when its was released the 0-60 went to 7.0/7.2 or something.
So I recconed they had tuned it down a bit to lose the torque steer.

Now if thats the case, then it would be nice if someone could get hold of the orginal mapping for it. I wouldnt mind a bit of torque steer.

Or maybe the preview magazines were just talking out of their asses

Nope. If there were this sort of extra power remapers would have found it.

Sounds like they may have had some poor quality tyres or maybe there were bashed about a bit to much by journalists and a few bits got bent messing up the handling.

5.5 to 60 in a FWD car is a majour achivment even the turbo 172 is unlilkly to do this.

mapping etc is so much harder and more complicated than people think...

a basic set up to change and upload the code for a new map can be in excess of 9000 euros.....

I know, plus you wanna see the technical manual that comes with it.... several hundred pages thick
