Re-Wiring the Sub

  MK2 PH1 1.2
decided it was time to sort out the terrible wiring job my mate did on my car. But, i need a little help... The powercable from the battery currently leads from the battery across the engine bay and into the car through the driverside door. I cant seem to find where its supposed to go in on the passenger side at all.

probably a stupid question, but will i need to disconnect the battery? and if so, how would i go about it?

cheers

Ignore this now, searched high and low without it coming to much help as i was still stuck. trying to get the powercable through the bonnet release cable was possibly the hardest thing i've ever had to do on the car so far. finally got it through and it looks so much better now!

  ?
Can you please tell me how to do it through the bonnet release cable? last time i shoved it through the wrong grommet... broke the grommet and had terrible road feedback noise from the passanger footwell.. dont want to ruin my new car!

It took us ages mate, we found the grommet (its oval shapped and has a black wire going through it) and to find where it came out (in the engine bay) we put a small screwdriver through.
Once we found that, we put a bigger one through so we could fit the wire through.
Then we attached a length of wire (like a wire coathanger) to the loop on the power cable at the end that connects to the amp. we then fed this through the hole, whilst slowly removing the screwdriver. once it got into the car we pulled it through with pliars to get a better grip.
Now i had it through i ran in it under the carpet through to the boot.

hope that helps, any questions just ask

  ?
Where abouts is this grommet located? and hows the best method to find it? Afaik it came out nearer to the skuttle panal!

Is the grommed still undamaged? any noise coming from the passanger footwell?

Glad you got it sorted..

Not being funny, but did your mate know what he was doing?

when putting the wiring through? ermm no. haha

he did it in a rush... and couldnt find the grommet.. he tried putting it in through the grates at the bottom of the windscreen! he then ran the wires over the top of the seatbelts and didnt tuck them away much. he also selotaped the wires into the back of the sub. i had to get someone else to sort it out but obviously he was too lazy to sort out the wiring.

the next step is to sort out the earth cable. it comes out the middle of the trim in the boot... surely thats not right?

Best place to Earth the amp is the left had bolt that is holding the big black thing down in the boot. Undo the bolt, scratch some paint off underneath. Crimp the correct conector on the end of the earth cable, put in place and do the bolt up.

Back left of the pic fella, That earth looks wayy to thin! Did it come in the amp wiring kit?

i havent got a clue mate haha... got it back in april/may some time? and as i said i didnt do it myself. didnt look right when it was done though, and i'm trying to tidy it up so i might as well try sort that too.

When you say behind the glove box, you mean pysically lie down in car looking up towards windscreen? I get my new headunit in a weekish so hopefully ill have a crack then. Thanks for pics tho :D

i payed halfords to do mine,
and they just drilled a hole though my firewall :(
while ur rewiring,
i wud suggest investing in some thicker wire,
this wire with a too high fuse can melt the rubber on the wire, then set ur carpet alight if sumink goes wrong,
id play it safe n get some 4awg

p.s. wouldnt let him fit any more wiring kits in a hurry lol

how much extra red wire did you have after you re-routed it? :S

suprisingly not a lot actually, no need to cut it.

yeah i had to put the seat back and recline it so i could lie on it and get my head under to see up.

if you unclip the power steering reservoir this makes it a lot easier to get your hands onto the wire as it is thread through the grommet

:S
it isnt hard mate there is just a clip at the top then it slides upwards and it comes free. if you cant bend the clip enough with you hands get a screw driver behind it!

Twist and pull up

You will have to give it a bit of force for it to free up as the chances are its never been unclipped before.

Yeah i would have done that if i could do it that way, but as it already had been fused and had the large loop on to connect to the battery so i had to do it from bonnet to boot.

just cut the fuse holder off and rewire your own :D

good luck trying to feed the wire in from the engine bay. that will be difficult unless you remove the deadening material

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Baaaaaahahahahahahahaahahaha!!! Just seen that first pic. I hope you killed your mate for doing that!

Bump... got all my audio gear now gnna attempt this tonight/ tomorrow

I hate to sound funny, But my clio was the first car i ever have had, The first i car i fitted a sound system too. Honestly never touched one before. IT must be the easyest car to do. Not one visable wire I woulda chopped his balls off for oing it like that!!

Wrong :rasp:

The best place (In the boot of the mk2 and mk2 campus) is to unscrew the plastic panel in the boot (under the door) and theres an earth point on each side of the boot for the rear lights (Distinctive as theres 1 black wire earthed onto each) I simply used a 10mm ratchet to undo that, put the earth ring on for the sub (ASWELL AS THE ONE THATS ALREADY THERE!!!!!) and tightened it up again ;)

Only takes 2 minutes and is perfect!

I think Clio's are only beaten by Punto Mk2's for easy of fitting! Both cars are unbelieveably easy to get the wires through and hide them!

Just having trouble getting the power cable for the sub from the batt to the boot as its an '07 and cant find a gromet anywhere!!!! (But '02 plates have a visible gromet so theyre easy!)

Anyone help with that?

i couldnt get my power cable through the bonnet release either, so drilled a hole next to it. then earthed in the boot by undoing the bolts behind the rear bench :D

Drilling a hole is my LAST resort!!!

Is there NO other way other than the bonnet release or a drill?:dapprove:

Not really the groments don't come out very easily.

Just drill about 1cm out from the gromet - it only takes a sec.

It's an '07 though :S
Trouble is, i can get a coathanger through to start, then cant get the wire back...what if i relact the gromet thats in with a different one? would that help?

I meant replaced the grommet. I really REALLY dont wana drill.

please dont tell me that black wire running across the boot is for the earth? lol

if it is, remove it, theres an earth directly along the back seats, undo the big bolt and use that as your earthing point, and as everyone else has said, that first wiring picture is awful! lol, the clio is really easy to do, theres a guide somewhere for where the wire can go through the bulkhead

Cant go through the bulkhead without drilling on the '56plus campus...
And if there is (apart from that bonnet release bit) PLEASE find me the info...I'm dying of poor sound quality here
