Rear axle conversion

Hi I'm new to the forum I have a 1.8 16v and was wandering has anyone ever taken away the torsion bar and fitted a 172/182 rear axle would be a grate help if someone could give me advice as I have a spare 172 sitting about ready to do the conversion
