Rear Light Issues

  Renault Clio
Line many posts on this site my problem started with the fog light warning on the dash board coming on when the brakes were depressed and/or the indicators being put on, although the fog light itself does not come on, just the dash warning. I ignored this problme but having checked today what is now happening is when the lights are on, with side or full lights, the rear lights flash when the indicators are used and the opposing rear bulb seems to flash less brightly than the one that should. When the lights are off the indicators appear to work satisfactorily. There are no broken bulbs on the system and i have checked the rear clusters for corrosion but they appear clean and dry. I have no idea to check the earthing issue that some other forum members have mentioned so if anyone can give me guidance it would be appreciated, i am not the most mechanically minded. Or if anyone else has experienced and resolved these issues then I would like to hear from you please?

I am sure it is a simple issue that can easily be resolved so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Disconnect one cluster, then try and see if it still happens, If it doesn't, it's a issue with that cluster, if it does then it must be the other cluster or something else. Reconnect that cluster then disconnect the other cluster to see if it still happens. If it does then it's not the clusters that are causing the issue.

Hope this helps

  172's for breaking
Get access to the plugs for the rear lights
Take the earth wire out of the black plastic plug
The metal connector holds the wirein two places, One on the wire and two on the plastic coating.
If you un pick the connector around the plastic coating then strip the plastic coating off and crimp back up this should solve your problem.

File the metal connectors which hold the electrics to the main light panel within rear driver's side cluster. If you file where there is corrosion, it should stop it. You can use wd40 once you've got the crap off the contacts just to help it out. It starts as simple flicker, then turns your rear light into an indicator! Good old French engineering!

File the rust and any shite of the contacts and then pray

Happened with mine and that method fixed it

On mine it was corrosion on the number plate light causing all the problems. Strange how electrics work.
