Rear suspension strut brace / tyre fouling on arch

  mini - going 172
Hi chaps - quick straw poll, any advice or thoughts more than welcome.

I've got a 172 (non-cup) with boy racer 205/40/17 wheels on - (the guy who owned this before me was a right clown) - the rear left (UK passenger side) fouls eeeeever so slightly the inside wall of the wheel well with it's shoulder when taking roundabouts at a 1/2 decent rate - nothing OTT, just not hanging around

(so - the side of the vertical "wall" of the arch - so you take the wheel off and you can see a black arc where it's been rubbing)

Stationary the wheel clears everything no bother, however it's under the stress of cornering that there's obviously some lateral movement happening.

(Have tried spacers, they found the rear pads I've just put on)

Am wondering if fitting a rear strut brace would rectify / assist (/ make worse?) or am I just wasting more time and money on an attempted solution.

Ideally I'd like to swap these out for new wheels but really dont want to spend another £400 on it (I've just put a cambelt and full brake set on, new driveshaft this thurs!)

Also - if I fit a rear brace, should I compliment it with a front?

Cheers!

Andy

rear strut braces do absolutley nothing

except for looking good!

so is it on the inside plastic arch that the wheel hits?? (due to the offset being too big)

the simple answer would be to get a better set of wheels!!

Struggler: yeah - agree completely - just wondered if the extra bit of tension would take that 2-3mm play out and save me from the rub, however the universal opinion says similar to yourself on this (I just remember putting a brace on the front of my leon a couple of years ago and it transformed the car, made it much more skittish...but that was on the front...)

Wheels would be the next thing (as these 17's have been kerbed to death anyway) - will keep eye on ebay for a cheap set regardless.

Fred: ah! now - that is interesting to hear, maybe something to be not overly worried about then.... hmmm... interesting, thanks! Good to know!
