Reasonable wear.

I am looking for some advice. My mate has a 52reg Extreme which has done 11500. After hearing a grating noise under braking he took his car striaght to renault. They have said it needs a set of pads and discs. I can maybe understand the pads, but not discs. I did 16k in my dynamique and didnt expierence these problems. Surely this is not reasonable wear and renault should make some contribution towards the cost of the discs as a minimum??

Cheers

Hmm, if he can prove that there was somthing defective with the braking system then yes renault should pay for it.. but if it was all down to heavy breaking and wear and tear then I doubt you will get renault to fork out for it.

I wouldnt expect your mate to win this battle but i think he should make a point of it, hopefully the dealer or whoever dealing with it may agree and award a contributory percent. I personally wouldnt accept it as general wear as its not general for most of the extreme/dynamique/expression owners, unless he has obviously thrashed it every day!

I do think he drives it hard. But not that much more than I did. It has only gone on one side only. The pad has damaged the disc and the point is that if the pads could wear under the service interval then surely safety checks in the middle of the service intervals should be re-introduced. It hasnt managed 2/3 of the 18000 service warranty. I dont expect him to win either. Its just a bit concerning as its £170 for sics and pads as opposed to £60 for just the pads!!

£60 for pads!!!!! Fudge me thats expensive, you could get some really good pads for that, not just Renault ones. I had new pads fitted at Kwik Fit for my mk1 Clio, £30 with lifetime gaurentee, if they wear out, I take it back, they replace em for free

Yep, was on a mk1 though so price might be different but its still not gonna be £60. Fernado pads are less then £60 and there really high quality stuff!
