Will be fore... running a Q6600 for overclocking, 4gig of OCZ Sli RAM, RAID 0 drives, vista 64bit

SLI and Crossifire not needed, will be running x1 Nvidia 280... good audio not needed as have a seperate card, just needs to be quiet and reliable. Preferably not too pricey but i'm happy spendnign up to £150.

i've been looking at the X48 chipset but it seems to be pricey and has stuff i don't particularly need altohugh i'm open to suggestions and thoughts

do your best lads :)

hah thats what i'm moving away from! broke on me, 2 dimm slots cause horrible beeps out of it...well know issue apparently...any other ideas? come on mike you know your stuff, whats good?

  Better than yours. C*nt.
I've got a couple of 680i's and they're great. Rock solid platform and it's the one I got my Q6600 to 4.8Ghz on.

If you have to get latest and greatest, DFI's Lan Party range (DK X48-T2R is just inside your budget) is pretty good kit, looking to get my mitts on the UT X48 to bench over the next few weeks.

Still, if you're running a single GPU setup on a processor that runs on the 680i, then I think you're better staying there!

weird....i've researched the problem i had and it's all over the forums. Actually been running the mobo for around 6 months, stable etc and all of a sudden packed in. When i asked over clockers about it, they told me the nvidia chipsets were rubbish in comparison to intel. Not sure what to do, gonna RMA it i guess

In fact, it took TWO LATER Intel chipset revisions and a graphics card 2 generations newer (and with another processor, and 256MB memory extra per core) to beat it, and rather unconvincingly I'd say...

Which an equal generation of nVidia kit (790i and 3xGTX280) went and trashed on WATER COOLING (not sub-zero!) by a bigger margin:

If I were bothered, I'd ask them their opinion myself and then dick on them, but they're a bunch of spotty Stokey teenagers who at best have wet dreams about LN cooling - and at worst, don't give a shiny and have the inter-person skills of my left testicle, which spends all day banging my right testicle.

yeh but dude, my mobo is still fucked however you look at it....and i don't want to put liquid nitrogen on my board either!!

How about an X38 mobo? Well under £150, my does not even have an onboard soundcard (It hs a soundcard, but its a PCI-express one, so you dont even have to plug it in if you have a better card).

Just speak to EVGA all there stuff as far as I remember has a lifetime warranty so they should sort it out for you.

Depends on the variant. A1 boards get the longest warranty, others only get 1-3 years dependant.

I've got an Asus Maximus Formula X38 board and it's pretty good tbh...

Any real benefits of the Striker II with the 790i Ultra chipset over the Maximus?

I know it's well out of David's price range, but it does look quite smart. ;)

790i chipset is very capable, and as long as you sort the cooling on it (ASUS use their own HS IIRC) then it's great - just the obnoxious nVidia stock chipset fan is rediculously noisy (and crap) and the reference cooler is shite.

yeh the northbridge cooler on the 680i is the loudest part of my old system never liked that.

Good shout nims, i quite like asus too. Annoying about the crossfire running at 8x but i'll prob never use it anyway. i look at the p35's a bit more i think
