Don't know what that does but everyone will tell you what they use is best :)

Personally I use

Zonealarm Pro - because Windows Defender is shite
AVG free - because I'm tight and Norton is shite
Spybot search & Destroy - because I liked the name :)

I've never had any problems with viri or mal/spyware.

MS Security essentials is a great bit of kit as well. Rate it higher than AVG and other free software I have tried. Don't notice it running either until it detects something, then it only pops up to say the threat has been dealt with.

For free, I don't think there is a better alternative.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!
AVG is absolute rubbish, it misses so many viruses. The amount of laptops I've had to fix because people relied on that crap!

Avast for an antivirus, Comodo Internet Security for a firewall and general defense

Both are free

Another for Avast! here. AVG is possibly the second worst anti-virus i've ever used, beaten to the worst by Norton!

I've always used AVG on all my machines and not once have i had a problem.

Only time I've had issues is when I've used Norton! lol

Let's be clear, AVG is AV, not firewall.

If you've got a proper firewall in place then you won't need amazing AV. Also, it doesn't stop viruses, it just detects them and attempts to get rid. If it's serious, chances are you'll have to manually delete it so it's good for notifying you, not much more.

i use eset smart security and spybot search and destroy and never had any viruses or problems.but i did use to be an avid norton user so....

Used to have problems with Norton and others. Started using AVG (free version) a few years ago and not had a problem since

There probably are better one's out there but I found I was comfortable using AVG

AVG is crap, even the ones it can detect it cant actually do anything with

use MS Security Essentials, you wont even know its running

Ive used it for 5 years on 7 different computers/laptops and have never had a problem.

But then it probably depends on what level you use your computer
