recommend me some front tyres!

  clio 182
as above, ive got a 182 and need 205/45/16 tyres. will never go on a track its just everyday driving. currently on toyo t1-r's.

apparently they have a softer compound and wear quicker than other tyres? been recommended "Avon coopers" as they are just the same qualitity but a better compound and wear alot less than the toyo. an quoted me 180 quid for a pair where as he said 220 for the toyo's? sound about right?

any1 heard of the Avon coopers and recommend them?

any other recommenditions for me?

cheers CS'ers

Pe2s are michelin pilot exalto 2's there the standard tyre for 182's think they were designed for it

^^^^^^^this, they are brilliant(i haven't lost grip yet :) ) about £100 fitted per tyre

didnt really wanna spend 200 for two tyres.... not got the money, only got about 1mm on each at the mo, think am gunna have to swop them with the backs and replace when i have the money.

any cheap good tyres? lol

t1-r's are fairly cheap and not too bad at all. but if you want cheap and long lasting go for falkens. not very grippy tyres tho, i wouldn't put them on my car.

  Discounted 1*2 parts
michelin pe2's are your best option. they will last longer than cheaper tyres so its no difference to buying a cheap tyre and replacing it twice as quickly anyway

It makes a difference if you don't have the money to buy the more expensive tyre at the outset and your existing tyres are illegal (as per Op's 1mm tread).

T1r's shouldn't be as expensive as you've found them I'd say - I got 225/40 (or 45)/17's for £80 each last time I put T1R's on my VX220.

Shop around and you should be able to find them for about £60 each I'd say.

hankook v12 for me thanks

me too, was always a pe2 fanboy before discovering these. £60 a corner!

Have had pe2's, paradas and toyos between my 182 and 172 and now stick to Hankook. My 205 is on pe2s still but 15" are much cheaper anyway.

Be careful. You're running on illegal tyres, so if you have an accident and the car was checked over by insurers I think you probably won't be covered.

you did say you wanted 16/205/45. i have been serching about for a new set of tyres recently and ive found the 16/195/45 do come out abit cheaper and reading previous post they dont seem to make any difference in tyre performance.
check the toyo t1r(sp) id recommend them if your lookng for cheap, grippy tyres
these are the 195. the toyo work out to be around £48 each
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m62b0s94p1671

these are the 205, the toyo (same tyre) is around £67
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m62b0s344p1679

id recommend buying them from camskill, blackcircles, mytyres ect online then just getting a local place to fit them, they will probs only charge you about £10-£15 to fit. just give a quick call about and find out how much the local places charge.
hope it helps abit

I got Coopers all around.. Good tyres in terms of price (60 pounds each) and hard wear! but bad tyres in terms of fast driving (slids all the time) BUT if you just need it for everyday driving, considering that after i bought my 182 i was driving through backroads and roundabouts like a tw*t for 2 month for about 2.5k miles, + and you love sliding about making loads of squeeky noise in the process than they are perfect. Besides.. to have them really slide in town.. you really really need to drive like an absolute tw*t, even than.. the slide is very controlable.

Although for the sake of corners once these wear off, i will get myself PE2s.. they would be just more secure and now that i have settled down and drive fast but sensibly, i would want more traction and control while trying to keep up with my dads exige s down b roads.

thanks for that,

gunna price up some pe2's and some hankook v12's they seem to be the best of both worlds. seems silly tho, then for a pair its gunna be around 150 quid so 4 is 300. a set of alloys n tyres is gunna be 500/600.... not got that extra money at the mo

I forgot to mention though, for track day i use bridgestone potenzas re11, i never tried pe2s, but as far as i know and a guy that recomended potenzas in the first place said they are alot grippier in sunny weather. Tried them on motorway on the way home.. road noise seems to be quiter. Havent tried them in the wet though. But bridgestones wear out quickly.. hence exaltos would be better for everyday use, and thats why i want them next. Just waiting for coopers to die since i had 4 brand new tyres with the car when i bought it. Buying track tyres, + exaltos and dumping 4 new coopers was just out of my pocket.

p.s coopers in the wet are suprisingly good considering how much they slide in the dry

go with the PE2's if you want a very good all rounder, or, hankook rs-2 if you want a litlle more dry performance (higherwar rate-200 vs 240 michelin) and a smaller price ;)
I have the rs-2's on the front and they do feel better, stiffer sidewalls too vs the pe2's

cheap tyres FTL. next time put money aside. next youll be missing a service cos ya aint got the money. get nankang. lol cheap and last forever, then get sunflower oil instead of proper oil and wash ya car with washing up liquid. lol may aswell go the whole hog.

Kev thats pushing it no? He specifically asked for cheap tyres and said he aint going on a track.. so i dont get whats wrong with using budget tyres in town until he is sorted and can get something else or perhaps save the money on a good service? I could run my 182 on my track tyres that cost 240bucks per corner.. but why? What real difference will they make in a traffic or a motorway?

  Astra SRI/ Hornet
they make alot of difference actually, grip, braking distances etc theres alot of accidents happened that wouldnt have if they had decent tyres on. ive experienced it and seen it myself. if i could be arsed, which i cant id get the braking distance in the wet for pe2's and say sunny tyres. youd be surprised at the difference. you wanna play with your life and others to save a quick buck you do that. good day sir.

Its true like. There was a thing on fifth gear about it between budgets and good brand ones. Couldnt believe they difference in braking distance tbh. If you have a fast hatchback like the clios i reckon it will make a hell of alot of difference.

But thats just my opinion.

I never said I wanted cheap tyres. I just want a good all round tyre n the best price for said tyre. I know that the wrong tyres (budget) will ruin the Clio. Hense y I asked for advice on getting the right tyre n price for me. I know tyres are the only thing that connects the car to the road n they need to be good. Just wanted to know what ppl use n where they get them from n how much. Coz money is tight at the mo and I wanna save as much as I can again hense the OP not point buying say pe2s for 80quid when I can get then for 60.

Go on eBay etc and on the for sale section on here. You'll be surprised at how good some used tyres can be. Sure there's 2 pe2's for dirt cheap with 5 mm tread on.

Lol @ the women in here.

Tyres are not something to save money on, they are the only thing keeping you on the road, budgets are fine on Grandma's Micra, but not on a performance car.

If you can't afford decent tyres you can't afford the car.

Don't try and argue with me because I am right and you will look like a fool.
