Redline D6 ATF instead of Renaultmatic D2?

Going to change my powersteering fluid and looking at different options.

It seems dexron 6 replaces dexron 3 and earlier including dexron 2 which is the standard Renaultmatic D2 (correct?).

Redline do D6 ATF which says it has improved thermal stability and maintains viscosity levels. This makes me thing its superior to the Renaultmatic D2 and might be less likely to boil?

Anyone got experience or info about using D6 over D2?

I've heard it said that the bigger the D the better?.....

I believe they are compatible and given the power steering pump seem a bit prone to falling out of these I guess a better more modern fluid might not be a terrible thing?

That was my thinking as well, from what I've read they are compatible and the Redline stuff is said to be better (as per their own description I admit).

Seems to have worked fine in mine for 16 years, just changed pump and used D2, imagine it will last for a while yet - can't imagine its been changed before either
That was a new pump wasnt it? Ive just bought the same I think, its all been painted over so needs sanding where the pulley meets.

How did it perform after all?

Well, reconditioned. Yes.

I was warned to check the pulley depth, mine seems fine but someone elses was wrong enough to push AUX belt out of line. I have to say that so far mine is also making the classic fucked power steering pump noise and wines for a few mins until warm. I'm hoping it will sort its self out over time (doubtful) as its only driven about 100m so far.

I have no clue. I would imagine they strip it, inspect it and replace any worn parts? Mine also had been covered in paint etc. They aren't especially quick or fun to remove so its staying in there until it gets quiet or dies trying.

I didn't return my old pump so if all else fails I'll have a re-think.... Although I would likely throw the lot in the bin and fit an electric pump from an MR2 or similar but keep the hydraulic rack the same. Have often wondered if I could squeeze a Rotrex into the PS pump slot and keep the AC... however I suspect I've already exhausted my Clio budget for this lifetime.

EDIT** Just noticed this isn't helping MLB soz 🤦‍♂️ **

Thank you @NorthloopCup .

@Touring_Rob haha no this isn't really helping but good discussions are always good!

@ZachB D2 is most definitely good stuff, used that on my Arctic where it worked well and its the OEM stuff anyway so can't go wrong with it.

I'm just planning to do a couple of trackdays next year and overheating pas fluid not being uncommon on track I was just wondering if there's any better fluids available.

Probably, but reading about how temperamental the pas hoses can be anyway I think I'd rather replace the fluid every couple of track days for 10 quid a bottle!

Yeah stock hoses aren't great, these will do the job 😄 Will be able to take out the whole pas setup without any mess, not cheap though o_O

Wow those are some serious hoses, must cost a pretty penny!

I've emailed around a bit and got an email back from opieoils, they don't recommend D6 as apparently it doesn't always work in power steering application.

They did however recommend Redline D4 as an alternative fluid so going to try that!
