I dicided to refurb my grab handles as they were looking messy. For some reason I had the bright idea of doing them in Iceberg Silver the same as the car!!! They look ace but now make the gearknob and silver insert on the centre console look really untidy.
How easy or hard is it to remove the silver insert on the centre console and how do I go about removing the gear knob??
Thanks
I want to do my grab handles aswell..was it an easy job to do and how do you do it..do i need to just spray them or do i use laquer aswell..what do i use to rub them down with..sorry to as its just i wouldnt know where to start..and do the grab hanles just lift out once the screw is undone
Yeah undo the screw and the handle slides out backwards. Mine had already been refurbed (badly) by a previous owner so I did the following:
1) I rubbed the paint back to the plastic using 400 grit wet and dry.
2) I then applied a few thin layers of plastic primer, 20 minutes between each coat until all the plastic was covered.
3) Once dry after about a day I rubbed them down again using 800 and or 1500 grit wet and dry until the handles were perfectly smooth. If any plastic showed through then another layer of primer has to be used and then smoothed again.
4) Once dry apply your chosen paint colour in serval coats until all the primer is covered.
5) Some people choose to rub down the paint using 1500 wet and dry but I just went over the paint with a lint free cloth to remove any paint dust etc and then laquered them straight from there with several coats. I then left that to dry for about a 24 hours.
Its not hard just need to use some common sense. There are some very good guide's in the members guide section that may be worth a read. I used the one on colour coding a spoiler as my main guide to doing it. My main advice is dont rush it and be prepared to drive without any handles for a few days!!!
