Refurbishing 'split rims'...?

Colleague has a TVR Griff, which has some manky splitrims on it, and he wants to get them refurb'd.

Every company he speaks to passes him on to another as they don't seem to like split rims for one reason or another.

They look a bit like this from the pictures I've seen:

I'm under the impression that they need to be split, and then powdercoated but no one seems to want to do this without charging a FORTUNE, if at all !

One company will do it without splitting, but surely this means you'll never get the bolts out again without it going very wrong (i.e.: cracking the powdercoat) ? Also, what are the chances of the bolts becoming loose when the wheel gets baked ?!

Any thoughts/suggestions or contacts around the SE of England would be ideal...

Thanks

Definately will need to be split, else as you have said you'll never get the bolts out without killing the paint. They are also a b*tch to reseal i imagine, you wont want any paint under the split / bolts thats for sure, as it will come loose. I dont think split rims are really designed with painting in mind (all over atleast), the ones ive seen the lip is just painted or via versa.

I told you yesterday ffs!

I have a company that will split and refurb for £25 extra per wheel.

They will refurb unsplit but no, you won't get them apart again without great difficulty. I see no problem with this as he's clearly not wanting to take them apart anyway, otherwise he'd do it himself before the refurb.

My honest opinion for the best option for him is to split the wheels himself, send them to be refurbed, (at regular price) and then re-assemble himself. Whilst they're away being refurbed he could polish the bolts up himself.

There's a lepsons in Kent too, spoke to them and they're about 58 a wheel if I remember.

I split my 2-piece wheels myself, got the refurbed and then bolted them back together myself and to be honest I wish I had just got someone to do the whole lot. Took hour or so to split the 4 wheels, in the process one bolt snapped so ended up spending £25 on getting 10 new bolts (smallest qty they sell them in) and then took about 2 hours to re-assemble for the sake of a few quid just get a company to do them, saves loads of swearing and risk of breaking bolts and will look better than if you do it yourself!
