Registration etched on headlight

I've got the chance to get a replacement headlight pretty cheap to replace the damaged one currently on my car, but it has had the original vehicle reg etched onto it.
I was planning to go over my headlights with one of the 3M restoration kits anyway - is it likely that this would remove the etching or not?

Ha! The car is breaking and the guy has offered the headlight cheap as its pretty cloudy. The etched reg matches the breaking car. It's not a xenon just a standard cup headlight

I'd look elsewhere. Unlikely that the etching will be removed by polishing.

Surely then the OP could just get a normal one with less clouding than a cheap "cup" one.

Thanks for the replies. No idea as to when the "etching" was done -can't imagine the dealer did it, nor the breaker for that matter? Pretty new to Clio's and didn't realise the non-sport/cup headlights were the same. I'll keep an eye out for a better one.
