You have to have given them "reasonable opportunity" to correct the problems.

If its less than 12 months old and there have been (I think) 3 occasions for a need to visit the dealership to fix faults, then you can indeed reject it and demand either a replacement or refund. Its under the Sale of Goods Act.

There are no hard and fast rules here. Generally speaking you will be deemed to have accepted the vehicle after a few months.

This has nothing to do with vehicles incidentally - it applies to anything you buy - washing machine, pint of beer etc etc. The time within you are deemed to have accepted the goods varies according to what the goods are. Thius is civil rather than criminal law so there are no hard and fast rules.

As Mike says, there are no hard and fast rules. Ive rejected my Cup and its now in the hands of my solicitor. Mine has had a major paint defect from new, and weve deemed it to be not of acceptable quality and free from minor defects as described in the Sale of Goods Act. If you want to reject you have to be quick. I started the process 3 weeks after getting the car, but didnt get anywhere on my own so I consulted a solicitor.

Paddy what sort of probs have you been having with your 172?

Have you owned it from new?

How many miles you clocked up?

Rob.

I successfully rejected a 214 in 97 - engine knock, which required a new engine, then the new engine blew its cylinder head gasket.

Rover did not want to play....till I sent them a copy of the letter I had recieved from Auto express wanting to do an article on my car....and asking when they could send the photographer round!!!

They even ended up paying 50% towards an upgrade!

I have just rejected my 172 about a week ago for this annoying knocking noise on front drivers side, asked for eplace, ment car or refund as car is no longer on finance. i have 10,000 miles on clock and have owned the car for 7 months it has been in the garage more than 7 times, i thought enought was enough, i have now got to take it to the dealer on Saturday as a bloke from Renault uk is coming out to drive the car and he is going to make a decision then and there. I will let u know what happens.

If youre waiting on a decision from Renault you havent rejected your car yet. To reject it, you have to dump it at the dealers and refuse to take it back...
