It depends what you want, i can offer a standard map to suit mods, a custom map or a full live map (live is not really needed much tbh).

Most people are happy with the basic but some prefer to get the most from their car/mods.

The fuel used often plays a big part in what gains are possible.

If you want the most from your current setup we WILL get this :)

whats the difference between a standard map to suit mods and a custom map?

Not much to be gained from a full live map then?

The standard map is developed within a certain tolerance to suit every day mods and different fuel's used.

Custom on the dyno is more involved, taking logs from power runs and loading the car up at different rpm's, this is then used to create the mod. The same process is repeated until happy :)

Live is just like above but the car can be tuned in realtime, this unfortunately means the car gets very very hot on the dyno so often can cause issues with intake temps going sky high. Plus you have to pull the ecu apart to fit an emulator. Sometimes it is required if you appear to be getting nowhere when writing the map in the normal way. It helps as you can see the exact point in the ecu the car is looking at.

You can tune to suit the extra flow so if you are getting that i would not map it until fitted.
so are you from rs tuning? ive heard a lot of different arguement today , but you seem too have the balls too back up your comments so i will be coming for the remap, so do i need the decat first?

Yes i am, :)

I advise you install ANY mods you plan before the map, that way it's mapped to suit your car and you won't throw it out by fitting additional parts.

Interesting thread

Any other mods on that? ^
That'd be me. At the time it had a full stainless and nothing more.

The car changed dramatically after this. Imagine driving your car with a passenger all of the time, I found that after the map it felt like the passenger had gone. In very simple terms.

Since the first map, i've had a run on Pauls road with a full stainless, sports cat, matched inlets, ph1 airbox with Pipercross panel & uprated feeds. On this run I got 175bhp but 165 lb/ft which is the biggest difference as the mid range torque is much more useful.

Don't worry about the bhp figure, Pauls road is known as the ego buster as it gives accurate figures. The seat of the pants is the true test and you'll see the difference instantly.

no they wont affect the remap mate. they will lower it a little and make the handling better

You're bidding on things & you don't even know what they do!;)

They're springs mate. Sportlines are better in my opinion as they lower a little more but Pro's give excellent handling.

The only effect they'll have is that they'll highlight the need for better brakes as you're be driving & cornering quicker.

so what actually is the best,rs tuner or RS tuning not taking the price into consideration which gives the best gains??????????????????????

IMO the rs tuning map is most likely better no doubt about it I have full faith in them, but unfortuantely cost can't be ignored and personally on a 1*2 i'd rather go for (and did) the rstuner for the gains given vs. cost.

I'll say it now and plenty of people will agree, there is not way in hell you'll get 15bhp. 1-2bhp maybe! 15bhp on a 182 requires cams and more.

Sorry you are wrong. the smallest gain we have seen on a 182 was 6hp as i remember, even then there was still 12lbs torque.

Fair enough I stand corrected, does the gains given vary through the different cars then? Ie between a Ph1 172 and a Ph2 172 etc? Just being nosey now, although with most RS cars I imagine that about pulls them up to standard quoted power as I don't believe many make 172/182bhp standard?

RS tuning maps are not necessarily better then mine. If we both make a custom map for the same car we likely end up with the same result give or take.
Important to know is, that there are very good calibrations around for these cars.

Very rare to see any RS make the same stock power really, hmm theres a pattern renault!

On average 160 for a 172 and 165 for a 182 (on our dyno)
