Clio 197 cup pack
does remapping your car ruining/damage your engine after a while or isit all perfectly safe?
wel jms going to be doing it. Just didnt know if it weakens the engine at all, i think not but just cheaking. Cheers
Anything that results in increasing the power of your engine is naturally going to increase wear rates. I certainly wouldn't use the word ruin and I'd be reluctant to say damage.
But with more power comes more stress on all the major components, so when Renault will have done durability work based on 166lbs/ft max torque, your going to increase that and in turn reduce the life of the components in the powertrain.
Put very simply, all that is done is richen the fuel mixture to provide a bit more torque, although it looks like a lot of F4R engines have their rev limit raised too. Which if used regularly will have a large effect on wear.

PS: Thinking about it if you drive slowly afterwards (fat chance, don't see why you would drive a cup slowly, lol)) chances are you would help protect the engine, just use more fuel.
The RSTuner maps are a very restrained mapping system, they are just designed with keeping a standard car reliable & smooth over a long period of time in mind. You can push the internals of the F4R engines far far harder, just take a look at some of the ITB/Turbo'd cars on here running well over the 210's - the engines fine, its just the box & the diff that does not enjoy that sort of power/torque.
Fuel economy is the opposite, in most cases it increases, often to over 40-42 mpg when motorway cruising.
Well there you go, from someone who I'm sure has a great deal more experience with mapping clios than me.
Can I ask which bit of the tune offers more mpg on motorway driving? Never quite got my head around that, with injection timing and chamber design being the main drivers. Is the timing late on a std map to reduce knock?
At exactly the same revs with the same torque being produced, has the original map not got multiple injections or something a bit wierd like that?
Although I've felt the benefits of a remap, when I was telling my mate about it, he simply said 'If it's that much better, why doesnt it come out the factory like that?'
I couldnt really answer lol!
