could it be the key thats knackerd happend to my old clio kept changing the batterys every few weeks until i bought a alarm that did both

Mine did the same, central locking died but I could still start the car. It was the keys that needed re-coding. Expect to be hammered by Renault for labour on that.

Happened to one of mine too, I believe it needs recoding. Any idea how much Renault charge?

On some cars if you put the key in the ignition and go on coil then hold the button it reconfigures the key to the immobiliser and alarm and blah blah, did it on mums scenic and a mates rover, don't know about newer cars though

Do you know even if your key split into 2 piece when change the battery, you can still use the key with the battery side.

I personally think it is the contact problem. I had something on top of the battery to make the contact better. I mean make it thicker.

Sorry for my bad english.

I had the same problem, contacted a few random places. This was advice from some random guy who did something with car electronics... advice for re-coding.... (it didn't work for me because it turned out the little chip inside my key had broken) but.... get in the car, hold down the central locking button inside the car until the doors lock and unlock (i think it is) your imobiliser light (on dash panel) goes red and stays red, point your key at c/l reciever, press button and VOILA, aparently this is able to re program your car to your key? Far fetched i thought, but worth giving it a try?
