Remote Desktop Assistance...?

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
Basically - Lan of 25 - 8servers blah blah blah.

What program can i use to be able to view everyones screen? Interact with certain users etc. If possible i don't want to be installing something on to every computer but rather just have the program on my computer!

Many thanks

Forgot to add:- remote desktop won't interact for some reason, it says something along the lines of "blahblah/User.name is currently logged on. Loging on your account will remotly log off this user. Do you wish to continue?"

That's because if it allowed you to connect to the PC while the user is connected then it would be like having two people using one Windows license. Only servers allow two people to be using it at one time.

right connecting from pc to pc only one person allowed on at any one time
server to pc only one person allowed on at any one time
pc to server upto 3 sessions at one time iirc

netmeeting can do shared interaction, but that involves configuration on each PC. VNC works as well IIRC

yes RDC is good, but as said is only ever going to allow 1 person at a time on a workstation.

Remote desktop and remote assistance are two completely different things.

RDC only one user per session, so if your logged into the server, and someone else logs in you will get kicked off.

Remote assistancethis is used on XP pro machines only (for normal users.)

Therefore at work, someone calls me, says the have an issue, I find out on what computer they are on, then I jump on there. So one user is logged in and the other one is assisting them. Please look at the screen grabs.

RDP

Remote assistance

So input computer name, below that box it will show you the user currently logged in
desktopSession.gif

This shows the users desktop, they need to give you permission before you can view, and once again give you permission before you can interact with their session, they can view everything you do on their computer.

Hope it makes sense.

I also use Ulta VNC but to be honest, i dont know why on some machines we use VNC and on others RDP.

I have only been here 6 months and have learned a little bit :)

What if i just want to see the other users screen as apposed to interact with it? Thanks

You will need remote assistance instead of RDP if you want to wish to view what the user is doing.

If you wish to take control, then you ask the user if they will authorise you.

So here are the events.

1)check computer name
2)check user logged in
3)requent remote assistance of user x
4)user x must authorise assistance
5)once authorised "professional" can only VIEW users actions and cannot interact with session
6)Professional must request or "take control" from user x
7)user x must authorise professional "take control" request.

So as you can see there is mainly 2 views. (View / Take control)

i.e Read only(view) and Read and Rewrite (Take control)

I'm sure there is some way of me been able to see their screen without them knowing? So i can look around to check users are working etc...at my old college there was a program so i could just look at everyones screen without them knowing then if need be take over their system or "lock it out" All systems have remote assistance on them etc and are all going through a switch onto the main servers /web/file/mail/sql servers etc.

RDP (or RDC as some call it) is one way and it does have some nice features, but for what you want to do perhaps some flavour of VNC is best. I prefer Ultra VNC. If you install the optional video driver it's almost as fast as RDP. You can use view only mode to see what a user is doing. I'm also reasonably sure that you can hide the VNC system tray icon making it invisible to the user so they wouldn't know when anyone is watching.

Look for a script called "fastpush", you can use this to deploy VNC to multiple computers automatically. There are also tools for VNC that can do things like display multiple live thumbnails of all of your workstations so you can spy on lots of people at the same time
