Removed the rattly 172 engine cover..

Was so fed up with god awful shake rattle and roll noise @ low revs (when just pulling off from standstill for example) Unscrewed the engine cover (I guessed it might be this!) and stuck it indoors! Rattle is now much quieter! Anyone know if theres any bad side effects of doing this? Like is it a rain cover or summat! or just sposed to look pretty!?

Cheers! Si.!

The Cups come without one and Ive removed mine (prefer the look without bits of plastic stuck to it). It wont cause any harm!

Cool, thanks Rhys. 172gal, its just the big plastic cover, which i believe you have to remove anyway to put oil in! havent got pix, soz!

I removed mine because it lost two of the screws keeping it attached....also fixed that I assumed was the 4k rattle.

Im not gonna paint the cover (now that its off), rather polish the metal, and paint the Renaultsport bit in the right colours

Ah thanks for the pic!

Im definitley going to paint mine, that red looks lovely. Is that ak_uks car? Think ive seen that one in the gallery before.

lol! Well you did better than me, i cant paint, tried doing mine and it had drip marks even after my 10th attempt!

Any tips? Mines a little crappy plastic thing..do i need to put primer on it first?

Rob, i dont know about the plastic cover. I went to halfords, found heat resistant red paint for engines and used a smallish brush to apply it. gave it two coats, no primer, just a rub down first. I have steady hands (its the rest of me that shakes like a bastardo) and it looks ok. No matter how hard i tried, it never spelt Alfa Romeo, alas, just renoSport. Ah well.

I think primer might be a good idea.

The covers there as some sort of noise reduction isnt it?

Thats why the cup doesnt get it as removing it saves weight and cost. (also its another thing Renault dont have to worry about forgetting to fit or rattling)
