Removing a rusted bolt?

The heat guard over the exhaust is rattling, one of the washers has made a washer size hole in it so it no longer holds it in place.

After shredding my hand up at the weekend trying to get the nut off to add a larger washer, does anyone have the best solution to remove a rusted bolt?

You've got a few options.

First WD40 and wire brush. Then try the socket again..

Next, heat with a blowtorch. Might work.

Last, angle grinder. Nothing argues.

How could i forget WD40 if that doesn't work maybe I can just use sticky tape on the heat guard

as above if wd40 and hitting it square on with a hammer doesnt help then heat it with the blowtorch, get cheap small ones in halfords

it's in a real difficult to do anything spot. I got as far as I could with the wrench, and ran out of room where I hit the exhaust part.

So I'm having to use a small spanner make 30 degree turns at a time

So I may not be able to do much with a hammer in the tight space.

But it sounds like a good excuse to buy a flam.. ermm blow torch.

Presume you're talking about the rear heat shield? Mine has done the same thing. Got fed up trying to undo it as the thread was siezed and doing my head in . Just ended up cable tieing it

6 sided socket only, never use a 12 point socket on anything that's suspect or rusted

Thanks, I'm think i'm past being able to fit a socket in there regardless of 12 or 6 But now you brought that up I know the difference.

ask an exhaust/tyre center to have a look for a few quid....

they have everything (heat,air tools, etc etc)

plus it doesnt mash up your hands
