removing mk 2 gear knob

As far as i know, you can't. I believe it's glued on or something and requires a hacksaw...

Can anyone who has removed their standard gear knob without damaging it please explain how, I've read all the old posts (hairdryer's etc.) but would like some more detailed advice if that's possible.

Part of the 'leather' has rubbed off on the right side and it now feels 'gluey' to the touch because of the rubber underneath. I have bought a Richbrook slant one as I refuse to fit another crappy cheap plastic rubbish one, until I come to sell it that is, so I would like to re-fit the OE one.

the easyies way i can see is to try doing it with a pair of multi grips and a towel.
but you may destroy the factory knob.
its not worth removing unless your changing knobs.

get the grippers on it and twist hard to loosen the gue and try an pull directly up if not then use a stanley knife to try and prise under the rubber of the knob and then rip the old corky bits off until u get to the white plastic bit then use a hacksaw until u feel uve got through it then using the knife prise it off hope dis helps

It doesnt come off cleanly im afraid.. just have to cut it off. Just make sure the replacement gearnob is a pull up reverse one!
