Removing paint

Hi all. Not tok sure if this is the correct forum for this or not.

Ive painted a few parts of the clio but i want to get my mirrors back to the standard colour, as the caps were. Mint before i painted them, i just primed them and painted without rubbing them down etc..

Now, is there any way i can remove the paint to get them back to 'standard' or will they need re painted?

Thanks

You'll have to repaint them. You'd just sand down through the lacquer when you tried to get the new paint off.

Yeah i thought that. Thinners etc wouldnt take the top layer off would they?

Lacquer is a bit more resistant than basecoat to thinners, if your lucky you might be able to just get the new layers of paint off by gently wiping with a rag and thinners.

If the new paint wasn't lacquered it will be even easier!

Cool, thanks. Ill give it a bash anyways. If it doesnt work then they will just get re painted!

Also, they were painted with shitty halfords paint so its not exactly hard :p

Try a wipe over with nitro mors (paint stripper)

literally put it on a cloth and wipe over it, don't let it 'work'. It could work, it could strip it all off... At least then you'll have a fresh surface to respray.

i recommended this because I tried to nitro mors my banister, it took ages to strip off each layer! But car paint is thinner so it could go either way

I wouldn't risk nitro mors personally, that stuff is ultra aggresive on car paint. Would almost definatley attack the paint underneath.

I've used it before on a repair and was surprised how effective it was after 10 seconds the paint was literally bubbling off the panels!
