Removing seats...

  182>FRS>VX220 now 350Z

Ive got a 182 and im debating whether to take out the rear seats or not. Basically i dont really like having people in the back of the car anyways so i dont really have much use for them. If i remove them then the car will be lighter so thats a bonus, also i quite like the stripped out race look.

Not sure tho, is it difficult to remove them? A mate of mine said i was a fool for thinking to take them out as its a brand new car and looks nice etc etc but i reakon my racing blue 182 with stripes would love it haha.

Would be interesting to hear your opinions...cheers guys

Easy mate. Just put mine back in this morning.

Ok, assuming the 182 is the same in the back as a 2004 1.4 16v...

Open boot, remove that plastic bar thing thats at the bottom of the seats, there are two bolts holding it down (needs a swaneck 17mm spanner). When thats off, theres 2 nuts holding the single and double seats together, remove them using a 1/2 inch spanner. Then theres one more bolt holding the seats to the floor. Thats it in the way of screws, the rest is pretty easy, just presing buttons to recline the seats and to take the bottom of the seats out you just pull it up. Just make sure u keep all the bolts!

Cool cheers mate, that seems easy enough. Why you puting yours back in? did it look good with them out?

Yeah it looked wicked, and Id just had the centre box taken off the exhaust, so it sounded good too, but what will shock you is the "TSHHHHHHHHHH" noise from the road/tyres, its quite bad even at 50mph, but turning the stereo up sorts that out!

I had to put them back in as I had to take my sister + friends to school and Im going to a dinner party tomorrow and need to take people. Spares still out though ;).

And Yes, it looks really hardcore! Youll have to put both the rear seatbelts in their sockets, because they rattle around if you dont and also, because it looks like youve got a roll cage with my silver seat belts! hehe

I know, especially in small cars, it feels really clostrophobic and their knees are forever in your back! The only weird thing, is when you see that they only spray half the interior with paint!

well still havnt put my rears in my car and still have my pit lane passes in the windows!

looks good and means I dont have to transport drunks, theres 1 seat for 1 person preferably female ;)

Like your style Pete haha. Cheers S2PTH for the feedback.

Does anyone make a cage for the 172/182? Anyone have experience with changing front seats and also harnesses?

Cheers Tinhead, i got a good selection of tools so i should be ok.

..I take it everyone thinks its a good idea!?

saw a stripped out clio 172 with bucket seats and harnesses secured to a rear strut.... totally mean!

I intend to take my rear seats off too and put a matty over it.... getting into prone position would be soo much easier wouldnt it ;)

What someone needs to do is get all the stuff they can possibly strip out of their car and weigh it. See how much you can actually get off the weight. Itd be interesting to see. The heaviest thing is the spare but everything else isnt really too heavy at all.

Ive stripped out my Mk1 v6 and so far got 110kgs (242 lbs) out of it.

You will be surprised at how much you can take out if you are prepared to be ruthless. Big culprits for weight are the seats, especially the porky front ones if they are airbagged. Airbags in the steering wheel and passenger side also weigh more than you would expect - if you go down the harnesses route you dont need them.

Carpet doesnt weigh that much but you may well find a layer of thick rubber backed faom under them which does as do the numerous anti-resonance panels Renault like to stick to their cars.

woah, thats hardcore yozza lol.....seats and harnesss look mint. Think ill keep carpet and rear trim in tho cos i like some tunes.

When you removed the front seats was there any complications with seat belt tensioners/airbags or anything?

lol remove that rubber bit from the gear stick, cmon!

put my seats back in last night, its probably just a placebo affect but its not as nippy anymore!
