Removing sport carpet?

I'm going to do a bit more weight removal on the weekend on the 172. Couple of quick questions before I do though.

When removing the front carpet section,

how does this come away from the plastic gearbox surround? Does that plastic surround need to come off and how?

I presume for the foot rest, torx screw and that comes straight off?

And when removing the inner sills plastic covers by the doors for the one for the passenger side, how does this come away from the boot release pull?

All help appreciated thanks.

The gear stick surround has two screws in it that are easily visible, they are at at the back end of it (nearest the rear of the car, or handbrake, whatever), and are down near the floor on each side (pass and drivers footwell), on the ph1's there's another screw holding it down under the ash tray (or cup holder for you ph2 guys) i'm not sure its the same on the ph2 though.

Gaitor is the leather surround obviously, and two clips in the footwells as mentioned, near the little vent bits. Other than that it's just the one at the bottom near the handbrake and the further point rear of the piece of plastic.

Take the little flap above the drinks holder out but just pulled it backwards, it's only clipped in.
Take drinks holder/fag part thing out and unplug the lighter.
Pull the piece 45 degrees and backwards, helped if you've got it in 2nd/4th.

Can get pics of the piece of the car if you like as mine is in the garage atm. ^

The trim running down the side from the pull release for the bonnet, well that just pulls off. The main plastic piece of held in by the seatbelt point at the back iirc, and a white triangle frame holding the wiring at the front. Pop the door seal off and it should come away pretty easy, little bit of a squeeze with standard seats.

Foot rest is torx screw aye.

Handbrake surround just pulls off if you haven't already removed that bit. :)

theres foam padding under the front carpet and this actually goes around the gearstick so you would be best to remove the gearbox surround completely (makes life easier) or you could just rip the foam

i take it you mean bonnet catch release and not boot lol, that literally just pulls off mate

the inner plastic sills will also be attached at the seat belt fixing at the bottom so you will need to take the seat belt off it and slide it through if you wanted to remove it

EDIT : Alex just beat me to it lol

yeah calum i meant bonnet ;)

cheers alex!

yeah could you grab a pic of what you mean - particularly the bit about the cig lighter being unplugged?

By doing this can it go back in same with the ODB port? I say this as I want to remove the surround but still have the need for the cig lighter (sat nav) and ODB port for diagnostic reasons.

ODB is the little plug under the flippy pocket? (don't know what to call it lol). I'll go take pics of car without it in and the gaitor etc out of the car.

Looks like you can't take it out, but if you got the grey thing off then you could. Must have been pushed down in there somehow so, just a matter of getting it off to get the lighter out. Could possibly drill a hole into the piece behind the drinks holder and insert it in there if your running without gaitor etc.

The leather gaitor is just a clip at the front and clip at the back aswell iirc, mine was cable tied in though as one was broken.

Good pull should get it off.

Doesn't come away with the gaitor as far as I know dude, I kinda accidently forgot to check though lol!

Is it a fixed connection or wire?

Edit: I'll go have a better look.

Yeah it's there, sits ontop of the little black metal bit shown in the pics, just infront of the gear stick.
