Removing Underseal

Okay, so with the E21 respray on the horizon, I need to get it ready.

So trim and glass is coming off soon, but I want to remove the 35 years of underseal, I'm making the assumption that I should remove the underseal before the paint goes on?

If so, how do I go about removing it? Are there any chemicals that will break it down? Scrape it off? What's best?

I tried a bit of wire wheel on some in the arch and it just mushed it up and made a mess?

Ahhh so you literally just scrape it off then?

Wish I was able to tip my car up like that, I'm gonna be underneath it to do mine

If its going to be completly taken apart i.e engine out etc you could fab 2 mounts and borrow a pair of engine supports that seem to be the norm for a budget way of doing it haha
