Afternoon Boys & Girls,
Is it just me or are the majority of renault main dealerships total w**k?
Had a minor mishap in my clio about a month after I got it (it involved a large piece of concrete left in the middle of the road by council workmen, resulting in new alloy wheel, two new tyres, new bearings, new axle, etc etc), and there was absolutely no communication regarding timespan/cost involved. In fact, they downright lied to me, and just kept extending the time in took to fix. After being told the work would take three days, I went down a week later to find it still in the car park in exactly the same state as I left it.
I promptly swore never to use Renault London City again.
I had better hopes after moving to Hull in the north east, but they have sadly not convinced me that the previous experience was a one off.
I recently upgraded my brakes via KTEC Racing, and when I went to take off the original discs, I noticed that only half the pad on the left front wheel was worn. This was due to one of the rods in the caliper carrier being siezed beyond all help. After two days of trying to free the damn thing, I swallowed the cost and went down to the dealership to get a new one.
"Fine" they said. "We can have it for you by tomorrow morning" they said.
Two days later I get a phone call. The part is in stock. On collection, I checked the part, and it seemed to be correct. However, on returning to my poor car (up on axle stands with no front boots on) it transpired that the part they had in fact sent me was far too small.
So I had to return to the dealer, with the original part (from which they had taken the part number to order it the first time), and explained that it was wrong. Not only did they try then to charge me for the part I didn't need, they then told me that the caliper carrier that had come off the car wasn't standard "according to their system". I replied, quite curtly, that since I had bought the car new from that exact dealership, then the only people who could have put any non standard parts on the car were indeed themselves. To which they replied (through a mouthful of sandwich) " are you sure?"
I asked them to call Renault UK, who sorted out the problem. They had ordered the caliper carrier for the 1.2 clio, which is strange since I gave them my Reg No. and chassis No. to go on.
Renault UK themselves managed to get the part to me yesterday morning, and so I now have a working car.
My gripe is not with Renault in principle, but with the standard of the dealerships. I had to go back there four times to get one part, and suffer rudeness, incompetence and indifference from the parts department staff.
Anyone else found this kind of attitude, or am I just unlucky in finding two particularly bad franchises?
Is there any other way to get genuine Renault parts without having to go through main dealerships?
Sorry about the length of this, well, essay, but I feel much better now having got it off my chest!!
