Renault Inspection

Il give you something to laugh about. Mr Renault said my clutch was heavy for a Clio. I thought sports had much heavier clutches than other clios? I don't rate there service to be honest. When they spoke to me on the phone it sounded like they had no clue....

My last clio was quite heavy....the only thing i notice a bit different on this one is that is sort of creaky when i press it down, i have had other clutches like this and ignored it as everything else appeared fine...its like you feel like notches as you press the clutch. do i really need to worry?

They also mentioned the gear box had some oil around it...when i look on the floor etc i don't ever see anything leaking when parked.....gears change nicely....

I got a squeaky aux belt on full lock was replaced at 50kish i did ask them to have a look... I said does it need replacing making that noise he said he'd check 5 mins on hold later. It shud be fine as its not due and looks healthy condition....do I rely on the manufactures advice? Lol the car is on 79 now.

To be honest i walked away more worried about their knowledge !! How qualified are these Renault technicians? It might just me my branch but jeez....i expected more

That was about my gearbox switch which they didn't look at....i did start to mention the quality of service from them but felt it made more sense to create a thread about it to see if anyone else has had this type of experience.

Many apologies if this is something i shouldn't do. I have been away a long time!

Cheers

Some dealers are great and others not so great. I've been dealing with a Megane II today that went to a local Renault franchise to have a new alternator... A pretty standard job for any garage (you'd think).

They fitted a non-genuine unit which in itself isn't an issue as people generally don't like spending £530 on a replacement Valeo alternator. The real issue came when i pulled the chewed up remains of an aux belt from inside the replacement unit, which wasn't even right for the car, as the pulley was a 5PK and the rest of the belt run is a 6PK (including the belt). K4's are very much like F4's in that they don't like aux belt failures and when they do occur it tends to slip the timing.

How the tech fitting it didn't notice I'll never know but if it was a junior tech why didn't the QC Tech see it and stop it going out?

Moral of the story, find a decent garage and stick with them no matter what car you own as the dealers aren't interested unless you own a car that's still in warranty.

that's great advice mick.....thank you...really upsetting to hear a manufacture of the car you own would do workmanship like that is shocking....a lot of people say ensure you get cambelts important engine maintenance done at a main dealer because they have the tools and know what they are doing....after my experience i would be so worried! and my wallet well empty!!!

I am in southwest and need to find that "decent" garage, i have read some of your posts and wish i could sometimes just take my car to you lol!!! but Nottingham isn't really local to Bristol lol!!

Need to really find the right place....

Isn't RenTec close to you or is that Portsmouth (genuinely don't know where Mike is but he's always done cracking work)?

Belts and servicing should always be carried out by competent people and that doesn't, by default, mean the dealers.

I've had a Clio III and a Scenic II in this year alone that have had timing jobs done by our local main dealer which was wrong. The Clio was leaking oil so badly the timing belt and pulley run was saturated in engine oil. This was caused by a tech fitting a cam seal with a flat screw driver which damaged it.

The Scenic was just a case of they didn't give a s**t and rushed the job thru the workshop... They aren't all bad though and most of the time the techs are forced to cut corners to hit book times/be profitable.

Must make you angry mate cause im foaming just listening.

Well city motors Bristol is my local Renault who are s**t from experience then there is one on station road Bristol who I think Paul works for and he had been great with advice apart from that I have no clue. That place is many miles from me. Portsmouth/Plymouth is a lot further south
