Renault Kangoo power steering cutting out

A friend of mine has a 1.9 Kangoo with a manual pas rack. Usually on the m-way at high speeds or sometimes when going over 50mph the power steering cuts off until the engine is started again. Ive check the fluid which is ok and the pump is not whining or anything. Any suggestions on what it could be??

They didnt put the 1.9 in the later kangoos unless its a 4x4. It will probs be the 1.5 dci.

Has it got the electro hydraulic style pump in the nearside wheel arch?

Iv chagnged a few of these now.
