Renault quotes...

  Giulietta 940
Just been to the Renault garage in Orpington for a service (£308...) and they've just rung me up telling me I need new front and rear brake discs, as well as new pads for the front (I only got them replaced two months ago).

Their quoted price was £600 for front and rear. I presume this is just another bloated Renault garage price? My girlfriend just got her brake discs replaced for £45 (just the front) fitted from a friend so I'm guessing it would cost me about £150? Let me know if I'm in the right ballpark.

Also, they said my exhaust mount has started to crack, and quoted me £40-50 for that too. Is that too much?

Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

I phoned Renault (Sighthill in Edinburgh) this morning for a price for front discs and pads on my 182 and was quoted £285.18. This included VAT and labour of 1.5 hours.

I'd go to a specialist imo. New brakes after a few months seems mad, unless you've tracked it or it's driven very hard everywhere.

Tbh though if you do need pads etc, you could probably give the brakes a shot yourself, they aren't overly hard to change at all really.

How is a front pad & disc change 1.5 hours for a (theoretically) experienced mechanic. Don't see how it should take more than 0.5 hours - less if you've got a ramp and air gun for the wheel bolts.

When I got my front pads done a couple of months ago it only took 30 minutes or so, as you said.

The person I'm taking it to is a retired mechanic, and only charges like £15 labour, however long it takes. He's done my gf's Punto and her mum's MX5 before, so I'm sure it will be okay.

Any idea how much it is for an exhaust mount on the 182? Don't particularly wanna start driving on the M25 and hear a massive "donk"...

If the front discs are fudged then you would have to change the pads aswell, wouldn't really recommend putting your 'old' pads on new discs.
Ask for the measurements on the discs, its done as part of every Renault service.

I've just been quoted £200 for front and rear discs fitted. The mechanic doesn't think I need my rear bearings replaced at all, and said they usually last until about 60-80k.
