Renault, renault, renault....

  Trophy #473
Where do i start, well i started to get this clicking noise on my drivers side when i pull off, so the other day i took the wheel off and noticed the outer driveshaft gaiter was loose and grease had splatted eveywhere, so im guessing i will need a new CV joint as dirt must have got in.
Next few days my brakes start to constantly grind on the same side... again i take the wheel off for closer inspection and find that my carrier has seized, must have been like that before i got the car as one pad was practicly brand new and the other was back to metal subsiquently wrecking the disk. (naughty garage whom also put a new MOT on it before i picked it up), so new disk, pad and carrier will be needed.
I then decided to have a look at the state of the pads/disks on the passanger side, again wheel off, and had a snoop about, I noticed that my shock absorbers dust guard had torn and was sitting in the spring cup (ment to attach to the top) so had a feel of the shaft (oh errr) and it was covered in oil, this can only mean 1 thing, a buggered damper.
I then twigged why my passanger side makes some knocking noises when going over bumpy ground.

This is after having a new exhaust, cam belt and window mechanism all in 5 months of ownership. my mk1 never cost me this much in its 3 years of ownership....

but i guess performance cars cost performance money... as im finding out!

  MKIII 138
older performance cars are all about maintanance and cost, ive seen non performance cruisers pass 200,000 miles with relativley little done but then almost every performance car ive owned or my mates etc.. have all had there fair share of common replacements when milege gets upto 70k miles area not many performance cars are fuss free it comes with the territory, those who think a porsche is an exception well a friend of a friends GT3 has just bust its crank doing 150mph at the Nur, the clio is cheap but powerfull, the porsche expensive but VERY powerfull hence same difference in maintnance only bonus is again unlike a scoob or evo the clio is relativley easy to keep fixing.

as regards to dampers 172MKII even new ones can almost instantly develop problems there not hardcore enough, use the oppertunity to get some uprated koni shocks there really tough and the car will corner better

colonG renaults arent shite was talking to a farmer at the local pub last nite he`s had every tractor under the sun he said the renault engines could take a proper braying all day long he was very impressed he did say one negative comment "the interior was very well put together" sums it up tuff engines, crappy interior fit, and of course usual wear and tear
