Renault say ECU is kanckerd - whats my options ?

  CLIO 172 2003
Hi all, following on from this thread

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?553557-Still-not-fixed-overfuelling

ive had to give in and give it to renaukt to look at, 207 quid later they say its possibly the ecu and it needs to be sent away to be tested for another 50 quid.

Whats my options here ?
as i see it.

1. scrap it and cut my losses
2. go with renault and im basically writing an open cheque for a car only worth around £2000 or so.
3. i dont know
4. cry

Help:dapprove:

essex mate, i thought renault were specialists, i cant keep throwing money at this, im starting to get very stressed over the whole flippin thing

Give Renault the other 50 quid and let them send it away to be tested and see what they say after that.

you do seem to have changed everything. I'm struggling to follow your threads as there's so many of them, but has your cam timing ever been checked?

  CLIO 172 2003
after changing everything the problem was still there, thats why i had to resort to going to renault.

They have had it on their CLIP machine and said the ecu isint talking to the injection computer, they have tested the wireing and its ok, so they believe it is an ecu fault.

Is their alot involved in changing an ecu ?

best of emailing some one on here who is breaking a full car you want ecu , uch and the chip that goes in the, maby the decoder ring to from the ignition barrel. shouldnt cost you anymore tha £150 and fit it all yourself its easy enough

Take it to a specialist.

Unfortunately, Renault themselves quite often don't know what they're talking about. There's been plenty of threads on here about Renault cocking stuff up, overcharging and ripping people off.

i've had the same problem before with the ECU.it wouldn't start and it wouldn't read laptop to a mechanic i took it to:(
i would go either do what mx1_champ says get ecu , uch , decoder ring and the key(door locks if you want)
or go get a ECU from a 2.0 and get someone to swap the immobilizer over from your old ECU.
i went for another ecu and swaped the immobilizer over.after pulling out my hair checking earths here over there, back over here again, nope over there again:mad:
i was fit the kill the every b@stard in my way i was so sick of it...

here is my thread of it anyway:)

mate I'm honestly this close to selling it for spares or repair.
Its a shame as I really love it and its in not bad nick.
But I dunno if I can handle the stress of owning another Renault.

My mate has a 172 ph2 he is breaking. What exactly do I need from his car if i was to swap ecu's?

Where are you based mate? We can point you in the right direction of a local company who will sort this for you!

So what your all saying is there us no way the ecu can be faulty and not talk to the injection comp ?

It either works or not ?

Not being rude but Renault are useless going by my past experiences anyway, as stated above cut your losses and get it to a specialist. I did this and saved myself a small fortune.

I had a running problem, Renault had the car for a week with there so called specialist using there clip machine but couldn't find the fault. Realised they were talking s**t and didnt have a clue what it was. Took it to Cit-Ren in Norwich and within a day fault found.

Tour De Force are about the closest company I would recommend and they come with very high recommendations indeed! http://www.tour-de-force.co.uk/

EDIT: As for the ECU not talking to the injection computer they are one and the same unit...
Thanks.

Is it worth getting my ecu tested as to rule it out?
I've changed so much their using much left.
Or is it just not possible what their saying exists?

Pay up and get the car towed to a specialist mate ASAP.

Oh and I managed to get a Renault bill of £280 reduced to nothing, arguing the fact that they had not fixed anything after a week.

Hope it gets sorted.

id email a few people breaking clio's if you go to a specialist you will have to transport the car there £££ then pay them for there time which will be more £££

just email a few people plenty breaking on here, parts will be with you in a few days and you can fit yourself with ease. and some one mentioned locks, you wont need locks of donor car as you remove the keychip from your old keys and insert the new ones ( key opens up if you didnt know)

The only problem with this is you can waste time and money replacing parts that dont need replacing and chasing your tail. This is what i tryed 1st. In the end you've got to bite the big one. It may cost to get it there ect but in the long run the car will be sorted.

We're only up the M11 from you so if you can get it to us we'll have a quick shufty for free and let you know if it's going to be a quick fix or an in depth one. It's 98% not the ECU as it takes an awful lot to kill one and if its powering up and attempting to run the engine it's probably fine!

  CLIO 172 2003
right just called them and siad about the ecu, he read me off the report.

The injection comp (ECU) is not talking to the UCH, and the comp is storing no faults.

There was a coroded wire that goes from the ecu to the uch which we repaired but renault have bypassed it and the fault still remains.

Phone Renault UK Customer Services, tell them that you have paid out £xxx in diagnostics and still have the same faults that the dealer cannot identify the source of. They will sort that. In mean time get it to Matt and he willfind the fault!
