Renault

  172 & RSi
My Mum also has a Clio and she has been having some trouble with it. Its been misfiring and cutting out and the engine management light came on so she decided to take it into good old Renault. They told her there was this and that wrong with it, and to cut a long story short it came out supposedly fixed and she had a £792 bill. My Mum was obviously a bit miffed but just happy that it had been fixed, but one week later its having all the same problems! Renault said they will do a diagnostic test which we have to pay about £70 for and then if it turns out to be something they have not changed it will be chargeable!!

They could at least offer to check it for free or something seeing as she has just spent almost £800 and its still not fixed!

Rant over

I'd go ape at the service manager if i ws you.

Bit ridiculous that they're tryin to charge u again for a fault they haven't fixed.

register on http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/ and ask the same question.
whatever you do, this is the point that you need to start keeping evidence of phone calls/conversations and i would strongly advise following every phone call with a letter by recorded delivery to confirm the conversation and what was agreed.

The Supply of Goods & Services Act 1982 states something like work must be carried out to a reasonable standard, at a reasonable cost, using parts of reasonable/satisfactory quality. You need to give Renault the opportunity to rectify the problem. You should not be paying anymore at this point- you have a contract with Renault for them to provide goods/services that a layman would deem reasonable, and they have not. It is in their best interests to take the car back (if its undriveable, its up to them to collect it) and rectify the problem. If they dont, they fall foul of the above law and you can claim compensation. I would also get trading standards involved at an early stage. And it may be worth dropping into the letter you may have to send Renault that you have sought advise from your local Trading Standards office.
But as I said, post the same question on the CAG forums, alot of well-informed folk on there who eat this sort of thing for breakfast.
