  black 3 door clio 1.2 16v
heya guys im lookin to convert my 05 plate clio 1.2 to run a reno 5 gtt lump,

has anyone on here done it>?

what parts will i need?

the engine will be rebuilt first.

most importantly will it be reliable? i only want around 160bhp so it will be low boost....

also i kno il loose my factory rev counter but what else may i loose??

what are the better engines for similar money then? i want a turbo though for the ease of tuning, i can run it at 150 bhp then if i fancy a change it aint that hard for 200 lol and i aint sellin to buy a 182 or similar coz ive only bought it 3 months ago lol also i wanna be different and cant afford to turbo a 172/182

the 1.4 turbo is very tuneable, but the more you tune, the less relaible it will be, and that seems to be quite important to you. Also tune an R5 lump to 200 horses and it will still only be a bit quicker than a standard 172 lump.

If you want turbo then the only lump worth putting in is the VAG 1.8 20vT which is probably about the best engine for tuning there is. That will be much more expensive though.

Gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say your in your teens still?

NOT as cheap. The TT lump requires standalone management, custom welded mounts and more.

I've never been a massive fan of the R5 lump myself, the combo of a turbo and a carb just doesent seem right to me.:S

I don't really see the advantage of the R5 lump, especially if you want to keep the power below 200bhp. An F4R will do the same job. Alternatively you could go for a volvo 480 lump, but again, they are not the best engines.
As said, audi 1.8 20v lump is the best to go for, but there is a lot involved, and the costs will go up considerably.

With these conversions you may loose your speedo if it's using a gearbox sensor, but as I understand it they are done off the ABS sensor.
You will more than likely loose the rev counter yes

i see all your points and im 20 years old, lol i dunno what it is about turbos lol i just like the feel of turbo'd power after owning a few turbo's cars,

i do understand that the r5 lump isnt the best lump around lol ideally id like maybe a 1600 with around 140bhp if its possible.

tell me is £700 a gd price for a 1.6 16v engine, loom and ecu?? with around 20k or what price should i be looking at paying?

with the 1600s, for £700 I'd expect it with some kind of warranty/proof of low mileage and I'd want a gearbox with it too.
At 20 you will be able to insure a 172 just about. I'm 20.
Seriously, consider a Ph1 172 if you like clios.

i can insure one its just they want stupid money compared to any other engine lol its costin me more to insure a 172 than for me to insure my mate 200sx and its running 300bhp lol

+1

Also there is no way i'd wanna put an old engine (all be it re built) into an 05 reg car.

True, there isnt even a benefit to it for tax reasons as your tax will go up a fair hike. I'd just rather buy a r5gtt and stick with that.

i would buy a 200sx but i cant justify spending £5000 + on like a p reg car even if it does have 300bhp lol
