Replacement 182.

Hi, my 182 is only 4 weeks old, done 960 miles and has been into the dealers 4 times for the same fault!. The director of the dealers gave me 2 options this afternoon:

1

First option I could trade my 182 in for the 6 month old 182 demonstrator which has the same spec as mine or I could trade in my 182 for a new one. He is going to give me figures tomorrow. What sort of discount should I ask for? Do you think the demonstrator would be a good idea? The demonstrator has only done around 3,000 miles and there is no sign of damage on it. I dont want to lose out on a new deal. Should I push for a good discount.

I would take neither and make them change their options to 1 option:

Replacement brand new 182 at NO cost to you!

FFS dont take any gip off the dealer if the problems amount to the goods not being fit for purpose i.e a car that doesnt work they have too by law replace it or give you a full refund.

So they want to take your car with 900 miles on and give you a car with 3000 miles with no cost to them. SOUNDS LIKE THE WORST DEAL EVER FOR YOU AND THE BEST DEAL FOR THE DEALER!!!!

If your not satisfied with your car then the only option is A) Ask for your money back - in full or B) Ask for a brand new car with no cost to you. Anything else is just a p*ss take!

The only problem I have is they wont admit there is a fault. The car still pulls to the right after having the tracking done twice! They keep giving me the same answer, its the camber on the roads. The last time I got the car back they had overinflated one of the rear tyres to 34PSI to compensate for the pulling. They said this was not done on purpose, got the car back again today, still pulling, dealers are adamant the car is fine! Said my calibrated pressure gauge must be wrong.

Called customer service, not much luck there, they just took a note of my complaint and put it on there system. Unfortunately the car is financed with RFS. A quick look at the contract says that if I cancel the agreement I will have to hand the car back and pay 50% of the financed amount!! Not an option really.

You defo dont want the demonstrater itll have been driven hard from cold since day one. I would never touch a ex-demo

The road camber thing from reno is crap, surely a car would pull to the left if it was the slope on the road surface causing it?

Is it to late to reject the car?

try this approach..

hello mr renault finance i am not paying for my vehicle until the following is sorted.

i refuse to deal with the dealer in question as i have no faith in their ability to reslove the problem given their 4 previous attempts have resulted in failure.

I am seeking legal advice on this matter

copy in renault customer services and the dealer principle at the the dealership go and see a solicitor who offers a free 30 min consultation (a list will be at your local citizens advice beauru (SP))

most importantly dont take no for an answer and dont give in.

if you take this stance too begin with it gives you more bargaining power when they come back to you with a resolution

the finance company should be on your side because they want too get paid. dont worry that its renault finance its a seperate company to renault and that should work in your favour

If the tracking issue is your only problem with the car then it might be worth taking it to a private garage which specialises in tracking. It wouldnt cost that much to fix, I had my old 106 done once.. it got so bad I had to hold full left lock to keep it going in a straight line :)

I think a replacement would be disproportionate or cause significant inconvenience to the seller. a repair would be as effective as a replacement as the car has only 960 miles, or ask for a price reduction this would be more appropriate for minor defects such as yours!

this will make sense if you read the clicky!

if you accept a fix and a reduction in price make it clear that you do not accept the faults and if any more should arrise or old ones persist you will expect Repudiation (end of contract) and damages !

Thats all well and good. But what if the dealer cant/wont fix the problem, then IMO its becomes a bigger problem!

He has said that in 4 attempts they have been unable/unwilling to fix the problem.

Mine has been back 4 or 5 times already but the dealer has always done there best to try and fix the problems and eventualy did!!

The fact that they are not even willing to try is very poor. As a few others have posted, if its that bad and they wont fix it then demand a new replacement at no extra cost.

Or of course, live with the faults like most of us. LOL

Only think you can do is try another dealer to get it fixed and see what they say, I know its a pain in the arse having to do this, but Renault wont accept theres a fault until one of their dealers tells them this and thus wont refund the dealer on the cost of it.

Your dealer sounds like a circus mate, f**k them off and stop paying for your car untill its sorted.

Jesus man, dont accept it, see a solicitor for advice or Customer Advice Bureau. Write to Auto Express or another big car mag and tell them your story, bad press equals speedy service from manufacturers/dealers. Write letters to head office.

Yes its a hassle and you shouldnt have to do it but you have to do it so these b******s dont get away with it

Go to a proper wheel alignment centre get them to check it. when they find its out get them to write a report and give you print out to take to the dealer then tell them you want the cost of having the independant check reimbursed and you want it either sorted or the car replaced with a new one at no cost to you or you will be going to trading standards armed with the proof they were wrong.

^^as above, I would threaten that you will involve Trading Standards to get the issue resolved - this is a free service, a solicitor is likely to charge. Do not take the BS they have been giving you - they have in effect admitted there is a problem by offering you alternative cars (albeit ones where you stand to lose out).

Trading Standards enforce the Sale of Goods Act, and this will apply in this situation. See http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htmhttp://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htm

Hi every-one. Thank you all for your answers. Here is where I stand now. As I live in Inverness the next nearest Renault dealers is around 100miles away in Perth. I spoke to the VW dealership, Fiat, Arnold Clark, they all say that they can only give me an oral opinion but they will not give me a written opinion. Took it to a local tyre service centre at 5pm tonight. One of the mechanics took it out with me for a drive, he couldnt believe how badly it drives! If the camber on the road is to the left then the car should go left but it goes straight. On a level surface if turns right!. Says it feels like the steering rack is iffy. He advised me of a specialist alignment centre to take it to in Inverness, said not to tell them about what is going on with the Renault dealer and ask them to do a full 4 wheel alignment check and road test and give me a written report but not to adjust anything. Sounds good. If they find a fault then a letter to RFS, the dealer and Reno cust servives will be sent via my solicitor stating that under the Sale of goods act 1979 this car is not fit for purpose! As for the replacement car, they want me to pay £765 to order a new one. Not going to do this. Sorry for the long winded explanation :D

lol, sounds like you may have a result if they find probs with it

Good luck and let us know how it goes
