Replacement speakers

How do all

Can anyone suggest a decent set of replacement speakers for a Willy (mk1). Am in the middle of uprating the sound stystem and need some inspiration. At the minute I just have the head unit (Apline CDR7874RB) but fully intend to get an amp and sub when money permits.

For the mean time though, Ive decided to replace the god awful speakers that Renault provided. So if anyone has any sggestions as to what make and size would be best itd be much appreciated. I have a budget of about £350-£400 to replace both front and rear.

Have also ben considering a "stealth shelf" as the mountings for the current rear speakers are pants. Dont know much about this though so any guidance on how a stealth shelf works and whats the best set up would also be appreciated.

Cheers

Mike

Hi, Im no ICE expert but Ive been told not to get a pair of 6x9s if youre gonna get a powerful sub, so just get a decent set of front speakers.

I myself just bought an Alpine CDA-7893R H/U along with a set of MB Quart RSD213 component speakers thatll be run off a Alpine V12 MRV-F307 amp. The components were only £119 and amp £165, so well within your budget.

Front speakers are where you need to spend the most money as that is where the sound staging will be and where you want the sound to be. Rears are simply to fill in the sound.

Front speakers should be 5.25 inch and rears 4 inch. If you use a stealth shelf you can fit bigger speakers in the rear rather than using the standard mountings. Stealth shelf has holes precut for the speaker and is covered on teh top so you cannot see the speakers unless you open the boot when you will see them poking down from the shelf. Stealth shelf is made of sturdier stuff than teh standard shelf so helps handle the weight of speakers.

I fitted MB Quart QM218.61 speakers to the front of my clio which are 6.5 inch so required cutting. They are really good component speakers and also come in 5.25 inch (QM215). They do a premium range below this PSC or PSD models and then a Reference range below that RSC or RSD. Discus entry level DSC etc.

As there is not much to go wrong with speakers I would check http://www.ebay.co.ukwww.ebay.co.uk out. I managed to pick up my rear speakers a few days ago 160 quid cheaper for a brand new set. Going for 3 way rear system which is slightly overkill that will have 6.5 inch in stealth shelf and 4 inch in place of usual renault rear speaker.
