Replacing door window seals...???

  Clio Sport 2.0 16V
Hello everyone, as the subject suggests, has anyone had experience with replacing the seals of door windows? What does the process involve? Mine need to be replaced due to corrosion inside them. Car is Clio 172 PH2 and I mean these parts:

Thanks for any help.

Yes - myself and a neighbour redid mine at the weekend. It's a fiddly job, but not so bad if you have some basic tools, somewhere to have the door(s) fully wide open and ideally, another pair of hands.

Taking off the window seals is very easy - it's replacing them that's the difficult part. I had a part that came off a donor Mk2 Clio and while the passenger side went on OK, the driver's side has a couple of small ripples on the edge. Not ideal, but the seals were free.

Taking the doors cards off will break the butyl tape seal and if OEM (like mine were) - can take some force to separate having been in situ for over 20 years. The replacement tape is cheap enough from Amazon however.

I took both of my windows out and cleaned all the mud and debris off the leading edges of the glass that is hidden away. Cleaned up the glass and added a little WD spray when reinserting them. The up & down motion is much smoother on both sides of the car now.

I still have the door cards off at the minute as I'm going to clean up the inner sections of the doors a little, tape-up the cables for added protection and I've got some replacement clips for the door cards themselves arriving. None were damaged that I saw during removal, but again, they are very old and cheap to replace for new items.

I'd be intrigued if you buy the new items. I would like to know how they turn up and if they are delivered perfectly flat, having the metal bars in them.

Hi Darren, perfect, thank you for the reply. Yes, I'm gonna buy them new, but still waiting for quotation from my local Renault dealer. When they arrive I can take a photo and inform you, I will replace them probably next summer...

It's a shame they aren't as inexpensive. At nearly £200 per side - it's a wedge of money for what is just a rubber seal with a bit of reinforcement really.

Yeah, they are fat. I think their price reflect manufacturing process, ruber have to be injected into mold of relatively big size, as it is not like other seals which are only pressed througth profile of cross section...??? At least they are still available!

There is that - strange how some items are available and others that you think would be really common, simply aren't.

Seems to be a lottery these days of what parts you can get. I was surprised that both a new bonnet and new rear quarter were still available from Renault France, when I ordered them towards the end of 2024.

...on the links in first message apparently??? I bought recently from Renault, both side at 319€ total. There is nothing like "outer side", you need whole part.

So as I promised here we are, new LH/RH window seals, nice and straight, new all clips, butil tapes and workshop manual, just for sure ;)

Nice - well done.

Still toying with the idea to nab these while I still can. The rear edge of the rubber seems deeper set on the 1*2 version, rather than the standard Mk2 Clio one. Definitely 'sits' better.

Out of interest - could you PM me a copy of that user guide too? Just before I refit the door cards on - I want to make sure everything is correct!

Is there any way to repair the original seals? My car has the rust bubbling under the rubber in a couple of places but the seals look good apart from these few areas. Is the metal under the seal totally enclosed or can it be get at without damaging the seal?

I don't think so. See a picture, metal part is inside a rubber. I think corrosion start here and continue inside, as mine are bubbling right behind the rearview mirror...
