Replacing engine

has anyone replaced thier engine with either a new one or a recon one? did you do it your self? how long did it take and was it hard?

If it is like for like its not hard.

The amount of equipment you have for the job dictates for the most part how hard it is

ok suppose i have all the right equipment, and the engine is going to be the same size. How long will it take to do? I need it done soon because i cant really drive my car until its got a new engine.

Speak to Martin_89 on here he changed his 1.2 16v engine and put a thread up with photos a write up sort of thing.

Easy job if your doing a straight swap.

Going flat out at it u could have it out and the new 1 in in bout 15hrs. I had to replace mine and it took about that. My mate who's a renault mechanic did it tho so maybe leave a couple more hrs to do it. This included stripping the engine apart and replacing cam belts, clutch etc.

Wow, i'm quite impressed with how little time that would be. What would the necessary tools be??

I was looking at changing 1.2 8v for 1.6 rsi engine, which i heard is pretty much a straight swap, or would this not be quite as easy??

Have you done any mechanics before? Its not hard if you have some general experience, all the right tools and area decent problem solver!

Wouldnt risk it if you dont have a sound understanding or engines, I would try and get someone who does and give them a hand. As john mentioned, decent tools and a good place to work always help and make things a lot easier!

im in my last year at college studying motorvehicle so fingers crossed i should be ok. is there anything else i would have to do once changed the engine. e.g. the clock, tell insurance. Do you need to register the engine to the car? Oh yh i live in coalville mate

If its the same engine then you dont have to tell insurance but you should tell the dvla the new engine number
