Replacing wiper stalk

Hi does anyone know if theres a way to replace the wiper stalk without taking the steering wheel off, if not and I do have to take the wheel off, how do I remove the airbag to get to the steering wheel nut and do I have to disconnect the battery?

I think you can do it by removing the shrouding, a haynes manual will really help here
