Returned with a Clio 172 Cup

Hi Guys

After selling my 182 and having my EP3 Type R for 3 years I have no returned and recently bought a clean 172 Cup

Would be keen to hear any tips and experiences with owning these it’s low owner 88k totally standard

Any history of belts and dephaser? Looks clean and honest

Will done finding a standard one. If you don't want to lose any money on it keep it as is. 5 years you might make a couple of quid.

Yeh good history and belts and dephaser done thanks guys had to do a few bits and bobs as a collector had it in storage but really happy with it

Absolutely not mate lol it’s staying totally standard gonna try and keep it as fresh as possible really enjoying it altho the lack of abs is taking some getting used to especially in the wet

I live in Wolverhampton mate I will do updates as I go along not much needed on the car bit of body work update discs and pads just had some jobs done on it to keep it up to date for a really good Renault sport specialist right by me that does all the work

Check behind the rear interior panels for rust starting at the bottom of the wings, and I'd say it's a good idea to also clean the arches properly and then Bilt Hamber / Waxoyl / Dinitrol everything.

Thanks for the advice mate got a small bobble of rust on rear arch which I am going to get sorted in the new year so will get that done at the same time thanks

Looks tidy, great to hear you're leaving it standard. I purposely bought a tatty high mileage 172 cup for track/competition purposes, I certainly couldn't bring myself to strip a good example one.

Thanks pal I had a modified type r and at my age felt a bit old driving around in a loud hatch so I am aiming to keep it a clean standard example. I was going to keep the civic aswell but have really fallen in love with cup and would rather concentrate on this

Hi guys just an update on the Clio Cup. So since I have had her only done about 400 miles but done a bit of work had a major service inc plugs, new sump gasket, new air bag plug under passenger seat and washer pump. Uprated bulbs all round.

Went in yesterday had full belts done and dephaser and water pump, new discs and pads all round with refreshed fluid and headlamp restoration.

Just turned onto 89k should keep my wallet safe for a while now.

No mate had it done by a local Renault sport specialist with the service I understand it’s a bit of a bummer to do

Should have had arp bolts done at the same time sump was off! Shame really.

Car is looking tidy though, get those grills sprayed up in satin next!

What do you think of it compared to the ep3? I was stuck between the ep3 and 172 cup. Went with the cup in the end as I found a nice example so never even got to test drive the ep3.

They are two totally different cars mate to be honest the ep3 better build quality and the engine and gearbox is amazing with the mods I did the raw power and redline of nearly 9k was superb, but then the cup for me is great fun to drive, still has the rawness feel but more refined than the civic, and to be honest the handling on the cup even in standard form is unbelievable. Both great cars in different ways

I think both cars it’s hard to find a decent example these days and one that’s been genuinely looked after I think you made a good choice with the cup I have no regrets swapping into mine
