rev gauge *HELP*

Hey i have a F & F rev gauge and put the wire around the ht lead but the rev gauge is not read n the revs prop anyone help or know how to wire a rev gauge up would i have to connect it to the ECU ??? insted is put n the lead aroudn the HT leads to pick up the magnetic pules ??

I had the same problem yesterday, I tried wiring the dash clocks from a 1.4 to my 1.2, everything worked bar the rev counter. There was the unused lead ready to be pluged in, but when I plugged it in, nothing happend. The clocks where out of the scrappy, so might it have been the unit itself?
