Rhayader

Yesterday a couple of mates and I went to Rhayader to explore the B roads and unclassifieds that radiate from this Mid Wales town.

Here are a few pictures:

(p.s. I have put this in the Clio thread because the pictures are of clios. If the moderators move it can you move it somewhere where I can access and add to the thread. There is nothing quite as infuriating as starting a thread and then not be able to add to it at a later date.)

Post 5, 3rd pic, this bend is just below the aberystwyth mountain road isnt it? Heading towards the reservoirs in the Elan valley? Did you drive down that road as far as the big set of double s-bends ? Mucho fun was had by myself st these bends, i went back and kept blasting around them, with some oversteer, quite a few times !

Some great roads round there, we did an event with another car club a few years ago. Some of the drops into the damns up there are scary with nothing more than a tiny wire fence.

That's exactly where we were. In this month's EVO the exact same roads are featured in their M3 vs. IS200 write up.

The wide chicanes are a lot of fun, but we only went through them once.

I want to camp out in Mid Wales and then drive the North one day, the South the next and then Mid Wales on the final day. Sounds like the perfect lads holiday to me.

There were an annoying number of lycra Nazis on the roads yesterday. These road tax dodging facists really ought to be rammed off the road.

Having an SLR makes it easy to get some great dynamic shots of the cars. Cheers for all your positive comments.

Nice photos fella, how does the Trophy compare to the 197 on those roads as far as handling and pace?

That entirely depends on the driver: their generic talent and esoteric knowledge of the roads. And since I don't know anyone with the exact talent and knowledge as me who owns a 197 I cannot answer that question.

But I can say the Trophy is incredibly fast and very forgiving on some of the most technical roads I have driven.

I am so impressed with my photographs. I am also a little tipsy mainly due to the amount of lager I have consumed.

clarkson and top gear tested the first type of Focus RS on that road (the same shape as the ST170) He loved the road but didnt enjoy the focus. I belive he finished the road test by saying something along the lines of "i arrived here in this" pointing at the RS "but ill be driving home in this" pointing at the camera crews impreza!! Quality Clarkson!!

Im 10 miles away from this road and only a good handling car is worthy of driving it. My old 106 gti did this road serious justice
